Army reservist Joe King sits on a concrete bench in Savannah's Telfair Square wondering aloud whether he'll be called to duty in Iraq. He doesn't want to leave his wife and two children, but he approves of President Bush's approach to the war on terrorism.
"When they start bringing the fight to us, we have to take it back to them," said King, 39.
(ENLARGE) ABOUT THE 12TH The 12th District begins east of Atlanta in Athens, winding its way southeast through parts of Oglethorpe and Greene, through Taliaferro, Warren, Glascock, Jefferson, Burke and parts of Richmond, and on to Jenkins, Screven, Bulloch, Effingham and part of Bryan. It ends on the Georgia coast with the northern part of Chatham County. The district is about 52 percent white and 42 percent black. Hispanics and Asians make up the bulk of the rest of the population. More than 22 percent of the population in the 12th lives in poverty the second-poorest in the state. The median income is $31,108.
