Teacher, husband face charges over teen party

PEARSALL (AP) — A high school teacher and her husband each face 41 counts of providing alcohol to a minor in connection with a party at their home involving more than 60 teenagers.

Sonia and Anselmo Ornelas surrendered to authorities at the Frio County Jail on Friday after learning officers were searching for them, Pearsall Police Chief Roland Hernandez said. They were released on $82,000 bond each.

The Ornelases declined to comment to the San Antonio Express-News.

Providing alcohol to a minor can result in up to a year in jail or a $4,000 fine.

According to police, the Ornelas have told investigators they were asleep in their upstairs bedroom on Aug. 28 and did not know that more than 60 teenagers — mostly football players, band members and cheerleaders — were drinking alcohol in their home.

The discovery of an unconscious girl at the side of a road led police to the house.

The couple's son allegedly hosted the party, authorities said. The Ornelas were not charged with providing alcohol to him.

Sonia Ornelas, 40, has been suspended from work with pay. Anselmo Ornelas, 45, works for Frio County's road and bridge department.

Forty-two students pleaded no contest to underage drinking earlier this month. They were fined $110 each but received deferred adjudication pending the completion of a 180-day probation period.

Pearsall is located about 55 miles southwest of San Antonio.

Riiiiiiight.... Unaware of any noise, were they? And how much liquor does one keep on hand that would get 40-60 people falling-down drunk?

How would you NOT know that 60 teenagers are partying in your house, while you are also IN the house?

I have a hard time believing the couple's story they did not know about the alcohol. I sat throw the book at them.

Come on, they busted two low level dealers. Big deal. Why don't we get the king pins? Alcohol kills more people every year than cocaine and heroine combined. Not to mention cigarettes.

Sounds like the parents may have been the first to have gotten "falling-down drunk." When one is passed out it can take a lot to rouse one.

ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
Nice try folks, your busted, may as well do the time. They must have a mansion to not notice 40-60 people in their house and sleep so soundly! ! And teachers complain they don't get paid enough??? hehehe.

Going to light this fire, have my flame retartant undies on...their kids should have drank where we did back in the 60's. Out of town, in rural areas driving home hitting ditches, road signs, and in one case another car.

They have got all the revenue that that can possibly get from us adults and now they want the revenue from a new generation, as fast as possible. That donut might get cold!

Yes, places that require a 4x4 vehicle and across a small river are best. :P

Well, if you can hear them, then that's one sort of party. If you can't hear them (and the lights are out), that's another sort of party...

Does anyone ever simply tell the truth anymore ?

A culture of lies and deceit does not lend itself to justice.

The teenagers I knew would bring their own liquor but the noise is something else. These people are using sleeping pills if they slept thru this party.

Oh! You are talking about the type of party where potentially more people leave when it's over than arrive at the start? ;-) *LOL*

Answer: Yes. Do you believe me?
