JOHN KERRY's Democratic election campaign accused Vice-President Dick Cheney of making money from the Iraq war through his links to the Halliburton company, in a new television advert.
The spot, which will be shown in states where Kerry is in the tightest race with President George W Bush, shows Cheney saying in 2003: "I have no financial interest in Halliburton of any kind and haven't had now for over three years."
Cheney gave up his job running the Texas-based oil services and general contracting giant to join the Bush campaign in 2000. But since saying he had no links to Halliburton, Cheney has admitted he was still receiving pension payments.
Kerry's advert says: "The truth: As vice-president, Dick Cheney, received two million dollars from Halliburton. Halliburton got billions in no bid contracts in Iraq.
"Dick Cheney got two million dollars. What did we get? A 200 billion dollar bill for Iraq."
The Kerry campaign has launched a series of aggressive new television adverts since Bush pulled ahead in opinion poll ratings during September.

Scraping the bottom of the barrel, eh John? What a gimp!!!
Wonder how much Clinton 'made' when he used Halliburton in Kosovo.
Kerry gasps last bit of air in election bid before passing out.
With all the stock Kerry owns, I can't believe he has not profited.
As Sen. John F. Kerry's campaign escalates charges over energy giant Halliburton's government deals and ties to Vice President Dick Cheney, there's one thing they don't mention - the Kerry family's own Halliburton payday.
Teresa Heinz Kerry liked the Cheney-run Halliburton enough to buy and sell more than a $250,000 in company stock in 1996, netting a tidy profit of up to $15,000, records show.
The Kerry family Halliburton investment is tucked in the Massachusetts senator's lengthy financial disclosure forms, reviewed by the Herald.
The records, which limit disclosure only to broad ranges, show one of the Heinz family trusts bought between $250,001 and $500,000 of Halliburton stock on May 13, 1996 - while Cheney was its CEO.

See above.
Cheney gets a pension from Halliburton. Now much money Halliburton makes now has no bearing on the amount he gets. To say he is "making money from the Iraq war" is slanderous. They should go F' themselves.
Ah, the evil Halliburton is back. I think on Halloween I'm going to dress as a Halliburton executive. Really give my co-workers the heebie-jeebies.
Most of the Dumbocrats don't even know that the Clinton admininstration used Halliburton as well, or that Gore actually praised the way Gov't and Halliburton worked together.
And of course Kerry is a liar when he claims Cheney is profiting from their work in Iraq.
Kerry disgusts me more everyday.
I wish I could figure out a way to make a "Haliburton" costume for Haloween.
No one has ever been elected president by attacking his opponent's VP. I'm really starting to think Hillary is controlling the Kerry campaign!
Cheney owns no Halliburton stock. He divested it in 2000 when he agreed to run for VP and put all his assets in a blind trust.
Don't forget about Algore and Occidental Petroleum.
It's not a pension. It's deferred compensation.
Terry McAuliffe turned a $100,000 investment in Global Crossing into an $18 million jackpot. Why he isn't bumming smokes in federal prison is beyond me.
He's gonna save the big guns, the "liar, liar, pants on fire" attack for the debates!
Apparently, Halliburton is required to give him options or to pay him money as part of his retirement package.
The important point is that Cheney had no roll in hiring Halliburton.
