SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - Los Angeles police this week seized 388 guns from one man, more than were recovered in the city all last year, a police spokeswoman said on Saturday.
Police seized 11 guns on Thursday from the car of Wayne Wright, 56, along with another he had illegally sold to an undercover officer. After his arrest, police searched his home in the nearby suburb of Simi Valley and found 376 more firearms.
"Last year there were 348 firearms seized (in Los Angeles). This year there have been 411, including the 388 that were seized from Wayne Wright," Officer Sandra Escalante said.
"There were rifles, shotguns, handguns and assault weapons" recovered from Wright's home, Escalante said.
A silencer and thousands of rounds of ammunition, including armor-piercing rounds, were also recovered from Wright's home, Escalante said. Possession of a silencer and armor-piercing bullets are felonies in California, she noted.
Wright is not a licensed gun dealer and may have been engaged in illegal gun trafficking, the Los Angeles Police Department said.

Just curious but how does the gov. define armor piercing?
Is that a state or fed law? If it's a fed law, and its been on the books for a long time I'm surprised there is any still out there. One assumes it only comes in military calibers like .223 and .308 and maybe Soviet ones?
Headlines that might allow politicians more cover to demand more gun control measures.
These folks have know idea what "normal" is for the rest of the country. I can buy 1000 rounds of ammo at a gun show with cash and take it home or I can order it over the internet, fax a signed copy of my drivers license, and then pick it up at UPS after I show my ID. There should be "nothing" bizare about 1000 rounds of ammo. (The reason I have it is that I belong to a range and do a lot of target shooting and I like the buld purchase discounts.)
As to 388 firearms.....that raises my eyes a bit. I mean I have two gunsafes full and I do some historic pistol collecting, but that is quite a few even by my book. While not per se illegal, it does make you want to ask what kinds of firearms (i.e. a shipping crate full of 300 FN FAL Clones that are all of the same model and not historically significant) as it could indicted he is really a dealer that should be licensed.
And 380 of those could have been simply receivers, which are a "firearm" according to BATFE (depending on the weapon).
"Private Sales" involving that number of guns in ANY STATE
is illegal. ATF is on a purge of individuals who make large number "private sales". You will first receive a letter informing you to obtain an FFL. Then if you continue to sell guns for profit in a state were "private sales" are allowed but you are doing so in excess of some number then ATF will come for a visit. It ain't pretty.
Why so many weapons? It has nothing to do with need. In words any man will understand--it's like scratching your scrotum, it feels good whether it really itches or not. You can never have too many guns.
The right to bear arms...maybe this bear has big arms.
If it has anything to do with the news media, they probably are referring to fmj.
So what the guy has a few guns Most likely there are a lot of democrats around and he needs protection!
All "private" sales in California must go through an FFL.
Appears Wright made a sale to a cop without going thru an
FFL.
They were just for self-defense. Can't a man defend his home?
He also may have been wearing a short sleeved shirt.
I agree.
The guy would probably be beaten to death before he could decide what gun he was going to use to defend himself.
Why does the dateline say San Francisco? And why are they calling this Los Angeles? His home was in Simi Valley.
I have a friend--ex Navy--who held an FFL III and owns over 470 (legal) weapons. My departed shooting buddy had 268. Big deal--except the illegal sales angle.
