I don't doubt that, but the NYT spouts it like facts. Even if they were off by a factor of ten and an annual income is closer to $5000 we're just supposed to swallow that the spring school fees are 5% of a family's income? Seems absurd to me. Then again we're talking about communism and the NYT. My guess would be more BS here than in the farm belt.

Let me know if you wish to be added or removed from this list.
I don't get offended if you want to be removed.

I think Derbyshire at NR could add something to this as well. If I remember right he has written about the looming ecological disaster that China faces.

We have some "spare" environmentalists we can send over to where it really *matters*.

This is terrible. Yet the same extreme leftists who claim to care so much about the environment also want to impose this kind of government on us.
Freedom and capitalism give us the means to protect the environment. Not communism. Never communism.

That's private school fees. Parents and grandparents throwing all their net worth and borrowing to spoil the youngest generation of children in China in (false) hopes of their having a better future.
Really weird demographics in China. Something's gotta give 10-20 years down the line.

$500 is the average annual income of the farmers. Middle class city folks can make as much as $2000.
Not everyone goes to these "expensive" schools in China although too many parents and grandparents are living beyond their means by borrowing for their kids education

Cuba did anything else beside tobacco, cane, and bananas, it would be a major polluter, I am sure
Cuba has destroyed their soil with chemical pollution. That's why Cuban cigars are now crap. They have hired a Spanish company to repair the damage, but it will take decades.
