The ongoing controversy over the fake CBS documents and the prominent role played in shedding the light on this by Freerepublic.com has caused an unprecendented surge in new memberships on the website.
Thursday, September 16, 2004 should be remembered as a landmark day for this website. On that day, more new users signed up on Freerepublic.com than on any single day before.
Click here for a running tally of daily new signups that the website keeps.
The 390 users signed up on the website eclipsed sign-up spikes caused during other newsworthy events, such as the Florida recount during the 2000 election, and the events of September 11, 2001.
The name of the website has been publicized widely in many media outlets as the source of the first revelation that the CBS memos were forgeries.
According to web traffic tracking site Alexa, Freerepublic.com has shown a remarkable increase in traffic over the last few weeks, as shown below:
Note from founders of the website: Free Republic is an online gathering place for independent, grass-roots conservatism on the web. In our continuing fight for freedom, for America and our constitution and against totalitarianism, socialism, tyranny, terrorism, etc., Free Republic stands firmly on the side of right, i.e., the conservative side.
FR is a great place to get toughened up. We are at war for our way of life, and we're ALL on the front lines. I'm not a confrontational person either, but neither can I stand idly by while the sociocommiecRATs try to run roughshod over the Constitution and take away our children's birthright.
They are their own worst enemy.
I'm not very computer savvy, but with the new spike in our popularity, and knowing the venomous contempt that lefties have for this site, I wouldn't put some kind of hack attack past them....trying to reroute traffic to some Bush hate fest. It's a good idea to alert Jim. It may be nothing, but better not to take any chances.
True, very true, and this fight for our lives is why I am getting more and more involved. It's just so bizarre to me - I am a conservative Independent, and try to listen to varying opinions (occasionally, when I can stomach it:). I don't attack the Kerry people when they try to give me campaign buttons; I just smile and say "no, thank you". I force myself to read the articles my lib-leaning friends send me. However, even though I've been polite to them, the libs I've talked to in the last week don't even want to listen to any facts or questions and immediately start accusing me of horrible things. Gulp.
"Can I wear my Victoria Secret pajamas"
Well, you can, but don't be surprised if some of our frisky male FReepers start demanding pictures.
...and only 20 on the ping page. I've been whining about that for the past month. It improved for awhile, then reverted. It is frustrating. I hope that new shipment of squirrels gets in soon! This is not good with all the new traffic.
"The council of elders will pronounce once you have submitted a bikini portfolio"
See what I mean....and there are probably more already.
Welcome to the right place to be!
That's their MO. It will get worse as the election gets closer, too. It's because they don't have anything else. They can't back up their positions with facts, so they resort to attacks.
I am sure the entire DNC is in the process of joining to monitor their own screw-ups... This probably accounts for a large %age of the newbies....So we have to be vigilant at the same time rejoiceful.
Thanks for the welcome. This site feels like home...very comfortable to be surrounded by people with like values and goals.
Please join us at a Freep near you.
Thanks for the welcome!
Cool! More people to flummox with obscure moose and cheese references! Plus, maybe Laz will find a gal to marry him...
