'Fake' polls, 'phony' stories -- sounds like a leftist paper Professor Toro Professor Toro
By now, the "no" votes could be up to a gazillion on an informal poll on The Herald's Web site last weekend.
The poll asked: Should the 10-year federal ban on assault weapons be extended?
The results haven't been tallied because the poll was hijacked. Or "Freeped." That's what the Free Republic Web site calls it when its fans jam a poll to mess up the results.
The Free Republic folks wrote that the poll in a "small local left wing Northern California newspaper" was intended to support gun control, as were similar polls last week in the Fort Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel and the Hagerstown, Md., Herald Mail. Those are well-known leftist outlets as well.
One Free Republic fan explained his participation in the exercise.
"Freeping online polls is a perfectly valid activity. Online polls are used by these dweebs to prop up phony stories. Screwing with their polls screws up their stupid, fake stories."
As another wrote, newspapers and polling companies get their results "by polling 600 people in Boston, Harlem and Berkeley. You aren't going to get those answers in Boone County, West Virginia."
The Web site describes Free Republic as "an online gathering place for independent, grass-roots conservatism on the Web. We're working to roll back decades of governmental largesse, to root out political fraud and corruption, and to champion causes which further conservatism in America. And we always have fun doing it. Hoo-yah!"
WORD
I haven't had so much fun watching and reading the news in quite some time as this past week.
Dont they put polls online to get opinions? Is not a Freepers opinion worth getting?
We have all known for years that the way to get the answer you want in a poll is to word it correctly or to have that poll in a place where the answers will suit you. When you go online with a poll you ask the opinions of the world we who come to Free Republic are a part of that world.
ping.
From the essay: "Free Republic and the New Media":
...From our makeup, we are Americans: Conservative Americans. Americans united in one common goal: We wont stop till the mission is complete. For we are the new media. We are the new truth in America. We are the amateurs that have rocked the status quo. These merry bands of amateurs, known as Freepers, have shown their expertise at exposing the truth. This forum called Free Republic will supercede the admonishment of the liberal media and conquer all those that oppose us. After all, we are the best in the world. Ive said it before and Ill say it again: Free Republic is made up of some of the finest minds Ill ever know. And for that, I am forever grateful for their expertise. I am forever grateful for this new media.
Why don't they do a Dan Rather? There's no law of physics that says that the published results of an on-line poll have to reflect the actual votes cast (kinda like a Chicago Democratic precinct.) Determine the results first, let people pretend to vote and publish the facts that you "know" to be true, despite any evidence.
AAArrrrrrggggggghhhh!! Those damn pajama people keep messing up my liberal poll numbers!
Now I have to start up a liberal only web... Hey! just wait a friggin minute! I know!!! I'll have algore invent one for me!!!
Po-or Babies!
...got their feelings hurt, did they? Welcome to the real world, jugheads.
One person, one vote. What's the problem? Pure democracy at its finest.
"That's what the Free Republic Web site calls it when its fans jam a poll to mess up the results."
We FREEP online polls to show how worthless they are. If there's anything disingenuous, its using unscientific polling and then complaining when their flaws are exposed.
Leftist reporters are so stupid. Probably double majored in Femininst Theory and Environmentalism.
This is RICH.
I looked, but didn't see a new poll to FReep.
LOL-LOL-LOL!
Hey, it's what we do. Offer to pass out free beer at the Walmart and we will be there, too.
Monterey--They make a pretty good cheese.
Their next online poll: "How do you feel about Freepers participating in this poll? A. They have the right. B. They should mind their own business."
FReeping: The perfect antidote to DUmbing down.
Kewl! I guess it would have been nice if they would have put in a link to FreeRepublic, but all in all a nice article about us.
Inverse Corrolary...had the DU mobilized and the poll been "DUped", the results would have been fair and accurate.
We FReep.
They DUpe.
Or:
We didn't get the numbers we wanted so we'll blame it on the Freepers.
..or on the VRC.
..or George Bush.
Anything but admit that they might have actually gotten acurate numbers (could happen!) and they are just having trouble dealing with.. THE TRUTH!!!
Whine whine whine.
