"I gave them a sword, and they ran it right through me," said Richard Nixon. Thirty years later, Nixon nemesis Dan Rather might say the same of the blunders that are about to bring an inglorious end to his long career. What -- other than blind bias against George Bush rooted in animus or ideology, or an obduracy bred of arrogance and hubris -- can explain Rather's near-suicidal behavior since his "60 Minutes II" segment aired Sept. 8?
In that piece, Rather revealed four newly discovered memos from the "personal file" of Lt. Col. Jerry B. Killian, Bush's squadron commander in the National Guard. The memos seemed proof that Killian thought Bush a shirker whose defiance of orders was being protected by higher-ups such as Col. "Buck" Stoudt.
Rather thought he had a story that could bring down a president. Instead, he has ravaged the reputation of CBS News and made of himself a cartoon caricature of liberal bias. How could Rather have been so stubborn and blind?

Buchanan has an anti-Rather piece?
Rather ... Dan ... Daniel? ... Rather ... nah I would never have known he was Jewish.
Yeah, before the Patsy slobberers come forth ...I liked writing that.
Yep, when PJB's on, he's good. I was, however, waiting for him to name the people REALLY at fault here: some people named Goldstein, Goldberg, Needleman, Shapiro and Feldman.
Not sure anymore. The longer Rather stays, the more damage inflicted in CBS's credibility (and the other lefty stations). They are re-inforcing failure.
Keep sending your troops into the kill zone, Viacom.
This is not about Bush.
It's about Dan Rather.
Dan is to retire soon and bring Bush down would be icing on the cake to his reputation.
Problem is, Dan is going to bring 'Dan Rather' down, with his insistence that Bush answer 'fake' memos.
It certainly is no "tragedy". Rather is a jerk sho needed to go long before now.
Uh, proceeding in reckless disregard of the advice of your experts is sort of kind of having a hand in perpretrating forgery. It is not afterall, the forger himself, who necessarily damages society - it is the person who knowingly and deliberately passes the forgery off as being genuine.
Question for someone who might have knowledge of shows like 60 Minutes: How much freedom is granted to an anchor of a show like 60 Minutes to say the things that he wants to say, regardless of whether the statements are true, without the approval of the producers and/or the executives? Am I wrong in thinking that the producers and executives at CBS had a hand in this fraudulent reporting?
This is what needs to be pushed and pushed and pushed into the public awareness. It is the truth, and the truth will set us free from the highly organized propaganda of the MSM.
I'd rather rather doesn't resign/get fired. I want to see him report the returns on election night.
I want to see the equivalent of 50 lashes (no hope for DC).
Wonder if Rather has broken some kind of Journalism law, and can he be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law...if you want to send a message to the chicken yard, kill the rooster.
Good post!
Thanks. Always happy to contribute.
Thank you....I know we have some Freeper Lawyers out there, maybe they know what the law is for prosecuting Rather.
Like others, I rarely agree with Buchanan anymore. But he does nail Rather here.
...it was pride and a blind hatred of the right that led him to commit a journalistic atrocity that will end up killing not the president's re-election, but his own...
No truer words have been spoken. That statement sums up the whole Memogate affair.
