two drudge links gave me pause today and i am interested in comments from the forum.
first, "kerry accuses bush of hiding troop plan". see the story here... http://apnews.myway.com/article/20040917/D855LF281.html i am a vet and still in the irr and i did get a letter from my branch the other day... makes me wonder. they want to know where i am, they asked me to volunteer for duty, and asked if there was any reason i couldn't come back onto active service. is there something to this story? is there something big planned if GWB gets a 'mandate' from this election (which i hope he will). this accusation may have some legs. thoughts?
second, as the story from the scottsman indicates (http://news.scotsman.com/latest.cfm?id=3513167) the WMD question is still around. this appears to give credence to those who say the WMD issue was a subterfuge to topple Saddam. i am of the mind that they were there and if they weren't why did saddam act as he did? i await your thoughts.

I imagine there is always contingency plans being floated for increased callups and deployments. Could happen, but probably no decision has been made yet.
What they are doing is using the upcoming troop rotations in afghanstan and iraq as a wedge issue, at about this time is when the congress and the DOD sits and decides who will be activated for march of next year, its quite a pathetic stretch for Kerry to do this.
I have less then 6 months left on my IRR, so I have been keeping in touch with my unit that I would be assigned to if I am reactivated and resent. Plus after I was injured I worked at the mob office at ft bliss, I got to see and file what orders where coming down weeks and months in advance, I still know people there so maybe I could call them and get the real deal.
If Kerry is correct, then he is giving the enemy information on troop movements and strength. That's not a good thing to do.
If Kerry is lying to scare people, who would want a president that would stoop to such things?
Pay attention to the grumbling about Iran. We all know the UN and EU will fail utterly to hold Iran accountable regarding their nuke program. This administration will not allow Iran to go nuclear. Yet, experts have suggested air strikes alone would be ineffective as that Iran learned from Iraqs mistake and have diffused its facilities. It may be necessary to go for full regime change according to the Afghanistan archetype, using indigenous forces with an American component on the ground. Such a move would be epoch, yet it may be the only option short of just sitting by and doing nothing. A ground force option however limited would require significant increases in troop strength in the region. And when you consider that a good portion of the problem we are facing in Iraq stems from Iranian clandestine activity you realize we are already in the thick of it with Iran.
Maybe you can clarify something for me. When I worked for the USMC during Viet Nam, a tour of duty over there was for one year. This has me confused when I hear Kerry talking about doing two tours. If he was in Viet Nam for 4 months, how does that translate?
I understand that a tour can be an assignment for any length of time, that it is for period of obligated service. I just can't reconcile the "two tours" for Kerry statement.
Oh, and for the record, the only typewriters we had were manual Underwoods which were ancient. When they upgraded to newer ones, the old ones were sent to Reserve Centers. :)
OK, on the IRR, yea we need you.
On the WMD, I have 3 soldiers in my company that came across a chemical weapons facility at Ttallil. The know its there, because when we went back to the site with our masks, it was completely cordoned off. Yea they sufffered some reactions, but it appeared to be temporary.
The WH denied this report--called it "ridiculous"--DoD said that fewer will be sent in that in prior months--It's B.S. Don't worry about.
The way kerry spins it it makes it sound like the draft is getting reinstated.
Thanks to you and all the Guard and Reserve that get called up - or are waiting (and worried) about getting called up.
Seeing the young men and women in Afghanistan and Iraq from the regular armed forces is one thing - but I think they are generally more of the mindset of going to war. Folks like you with jobs and responsibilites at home I feel much prouder of to hear of their service. I'm proud of all of you - but seeing some 45 year-old give up his job and his family seems to be a bigger sacrifice than a 22 year-old kissing his mom and dad goodbye.
I probably dug a hole with all of that - so thank you to all of our troops - both present, past and future.
Honestly I couldnt tell you, I understand the same as you on tour lengtha. I was just filling in at the office since my injuries prevented me from performing my duties. I was on what they called MedHold.
Do you have any particular skills that are unique? I heard they were looking for certain people.
Certain specialties actually.
Correction Tallil
Under kerry admin. you'd just call BR549 and get all the military/war plans. (Also check Yellow pages, a kerry favorite.)
God Bless you and thank you so much for your service!
They always check up on people who are on inactive status. And most certainly in a time of war.
The way some people are reacting to the possibility that reserves may be called up (Kerry himself promised 40,000 more troops put on active duty) you'd think it was the draft.
I really don't know if Bush is planning to call up more reserves or not, but that certainly should be an option on the table. It's very inappropriate for Kerry to accuse Bush of having a "secret plan" for such a thing. It's scare-mongering of the worst kind. These are people who are already enlisted in the military.
Anyways, anyone who didn't go to Vietnam is a coward, according to John Kerry, so what is he complaining about when it comes to Iraq or Afghanistan?
