This article is on Drudge. What's the feeling out there on this subject? Anything we can do? Freep ABC?

I'm new at this, so forgive any screwups.

Seems to boil down to: was it a news making event? If so, they could use the footage.

This is the only way one of the major networks would ever mention the SBVT ads. Good strategery.

I'm not thrilled with this ad. It looks like Kerry's words are being manipulated through selective editing. I would re-edit it and drop the video.

a. The SBVFT leaders include some very sharp lawyers.

b. At the very least they can say they'll consider the ABC
request, and they'll watch how a similar complaint by NBC
against a Dem 527 is resolved.

I respectfully disagree. It is clearly edited, so there is no attempt at "trickery." The reason I think it works is because of the ads that ran before it. America has seen, and heard (and can read) the precise words Skerry used regarding his medals/ribbons toss. I think it is perfect to use his own words against him.

I was hoping for something a bit more hard-hitting like, showing his picture as a hero in the North Vietnamese museum,,,etc...

I know they aren't done yet,,there will be more ads.

To date, the Swifties haven't had to retract any of their statements or assertions...

The Swifties have a great attorney, Ginsburg, who used to be one of the attorneys for the White House.

Best thing we can do is to send them money.

A new ad from a group of Vietnam War veterans who oppose Sen. John Kerry's presidential candidacy uses footage from an ABC News broadcast to buttress its claims that Kerry has given conflicting explanations about military awards he publicly threw away in 1971.

ABC News executives objected immediately to the ad, which Swift Boat Veterans for Truth said it plans to air in two Western states.

ABC News may not produce the truth but has a problem with those who do?

It looks like Kerry's words are being manipulated through selective editing.

No one is claiming so. Let them. More exposure. We're just marking time until October, when the big guns will fire, anyway.

I'm starting to think these Swiftvets are strategic geniuses. No wonder they've gotten so much out of their relatively-modest budget. They seem to have mastered the art of getting leverage for their stories by using the MSM as a fulcrum.

Sure, go ahead, ABC, make a controversy out of this. By the time ABC gets an injunction to make the Swiftees stop using the footage, the publicity the ad will get from the effort to silence them will be worth millions.

Swiftees, you are patriots. Stand and deliver.

They aren't, though. They are all in context.
I saw all the surrounding text today (and don't
recall where, or I'd post a link).

I half suspect that the slightly choppy editing was
intentional, to provoke the Kerry camp into addressing
the matter, and motivate those who share your reaction
to examine the source paragraphs.

We'll soon find out.

I'm trying to figure out what is the property of ABC given that the airwaves are the property of the people of America for which the networks are under obligation to provide a fair and open hearing of political issues of interest.

In other words, they don't own the airwaves. We do.

They are granted permission to use. (And some licensing fee???)

Permission is partially granted in exchange for ABC airing political discourse.

I'm not sure their program of one of the candidates in the election is their property. I think it's in response to fulfilling their obligation.

Anyone agree with me?

It is my understanding that Ginsburg only advised them on the campaign finance laws and how it would apply to the Swift Boat ads.

I think you are right.

I hope they have some good attorneys advising them on everything else.

All ABC will achieve is to give the Swift Boat Vets a lot of free publicity as the story percolates through the media.

John O'Neill is an attorney himself. These guys are the real deal! Decorated combat veterans, the same kind of men who have always defended America!
