Remarks by the President at Focus on Women's Issues Event - (Charlotte NC today- ref to RatherGate?)
White House Press Release ^ | Sept. 17, 2004 | G.W. Bush

Posted on 09/17/2004 7:34:29 PM PDT by Enlightiator

Excerpt from GW Bush Speech today at the Charlotte Convention Center:

One of the interesting things about education is that as you increase your skill level, you increase your productivity. It means you're a more productive worker. And when you become more productive, you make more money. One of the interesting things about a changing economy is that our workers are more productive than ever before. That means instead of using a hoe, you use a backhoe. Or instead of using, you know, a regular old standard typewriter, you use a computer. In other words, that's an example of becoming more productive. (Applause.)

My wife was at the Convention Center listening to GW Bush today, and said that the crowd was tremendously supportive of the President. The Convention Center was full and some did not get in, press indicated around 4000 had been invited. Very good speech, many interuptions of applause, and my wife stood up and cheered at what she thought was a reference to the "RatherGate" story which broke on Freerpublic. Not sure if this was G.W.'s intent or not, but she perceived the sly humor in it, as did I when I found it in the press release.

CBS News and Dan Rather are slowly imploding, and the clock is ticking down....tick...tick...tick..... Gotta love FreeRepublic, The Truth, and the Prez! I propose a new Freeper slogan in honor of Dan:

What's the Font, Kerneth?

Oh, yeah. It was deliberate, I guarantee.

Saw a pic of GWB under an umbrella, probably at the airport. Guess Ivan was there to greet him too, huh? :-)

Did you pick up on that line during the speech? Any reaction from the crowd?

And don't tell me the crowd booed and Bush did nothing to stop it:)

LOL, yeah I heard it, everyone in my section was laughing. And one lady, when the Prez mentioned the senators that voted against funding the military, she screamed out "NAME 'EM!!!!" Hilarious. The crowd was really into it, and I felt bad for those who didn't make it in.

Another subtle message from the President?--

That means instead of using a hoe [CBS News], you use a backhoe [Free Republic].

Technically, there is such a thing as too much education (think of some overeducated type - what's the proper slang name for them?- dork? - the education does not make THESE more productive), but a campaign speech was probably not the right place for GWB to go into these fine distinctions.
