MSNBC's Hardball Just Had Dean's Former Campaign Manager Float New "Theory"
Hank All-American | Sep 17, 2004 | Hank All-American

Dean's former campaign Manager just mentioned a "theory" he heard that the documents were actually made in 1972, but were later scanned, changing the font.

Can you believe how desperate the liberals are? Did it also change the terminology from Air Force to Army? Did it also change the signature? Did it also change the retirement date for General Staudt?

They will never concede the documents are forgeries. This will live on in liberal mythology forever. Like the October Surprise.

Apparently, they changed a lot of other things when they scanned them as well, such as Bush's address, the date on which the physical was supposed to be, the name of the officer who pressured Killian, etc.

I've used OCR software extensively about 10 years ago, and found it to be more trouble than it was worth. The slightest thing would cause it to chage a "g" to a "5" and other such craziness. It was maddening!

OCR may be a possibility, but it wouldn't explain the crumple marks on the pdf. Keep up, folks!!

http://www.cbi.umn.edu/collections/inv/cdc/histtimeline.html pretty well covers the IBM/CDC/Rabinow OCR history with short paragraphs.

Glad to see official corporate histories conform to my memory!

I really doubt Lt. Col. Burkett or Lt. Col. Killian had access to OCRs in 1972.

Why has Hillary been quiet for the last 4 weeks?

Is she worried about Bill's health or just waiting for Kerry's acceptance that he has been totally destroyed by his acceptance of the Clinton's help?

Actuall, the fonts were changed when the documents were "transported" from the bridge of the Enterprise into Burkett's mailbox. At least that's what I heard.

Per Dean's former campaign manager OCR theory:

I reinstalled my old OCR software, ran the Rather memos through, changed the font, and it came out...

YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!

Exactly how does "scanning" a document "change its font"?

Sounds like they are tossing out as a trial ballon the idea that the originals (typed?) were scanned and run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software, which coverts the scanned image of text into text. Assuming it was done on a PC with Times New Roman TT fonts, they could argue the output would look like what CBS has in the mystery documents.

All of which is very nice, except there's no way to distinguish between an OCR'ed document and one that was typed last week on a PC!

Unless they have the original docs from the 1970's, it's not believeable.

That doesn't even address the issue regarding the content of the meoes being bogus (Army vs. Air Force terminology, etc.)

The most obvious counter to this argument is all the artifacts (dots or static) that are on the memos. If they used a program like ReadIRIS, it _could_ scan the text and even the signature, but would not pick up the artifacts. Those would have to be added later to make the document look "aged." -- Read phony.

This is a lame excuse and shows how incompetent these slimebags think Americans are. They show such arrogance and contempt that it is sickening.

Instead of this asinine speculation, why don't they just show us the stinkin' originals?

All. ITS SOUNDS MORE AND MORE LIKE HOWARD DEAN IS WORRIED ABOUT THIS....and this may be why...

go to

http://www.vanosforsupremecourt.com

Burkett's Lawyer is a guy named David Van Os. Look at his biography. Bottom section. Democrat County Chairman.

ALSO...This is on his front paged....HE IS ENDORSED BY DEAN!
Read the 1st sentence of the second paragraph...Van Os worked on Dean's campaign in 2003...

To receive the endorsement of Governor Howard Dean, the man who gave voice to millions for whom nobody was speaking, is an honor beyond measure. Governor Dean represents the aspirations of millions of Americans who want to take their country back from the special interests in every branch and at every level of government. His endorsement will be a huge boost to my campaign to restore the Courts of Texas to the ownership of the people of Texas, and at the same time, to kick the totalitarian Republican political beast right in its belly.

I became actively involved in the Dean campaign in Texas in the early summer of 2003. Governor Dean inspired me enormously. He made people realize that they really can stand up and fight to take their country back from the right-wing clique that has hijacked the Republican Party and through it the whole government. He re-ignited people’s faith in their ability to retake ownership of their government through grass roots political action. His inspiration was a large factor in my decision to challenge the special interests that control the Republican Party for a seat on the Texas Supreme Court, one of their bastions.

The only thing that can stop us from winning the struggle to take our government back is our own disbelief in our power to do it. We the people do have the power, and our time has come.

David Van Os

Gov. Howard Dean and Democracy for America Endorses

David Van Os for Texas Supreme Court

San Antonio, Texas—David Van Os, Democratic candidate for the Texas Supreme Court, has been endorsed by Gov. Howard Dean, honorary chair and founder of Democracy for America (www.democracyforamerica.com). Van Os is part of the “Dean Dozen,” a select group of socially progressive, fiscally responsible candidates that represent the spirit of grassroots democracy in this country.

On behalf of the candidates, Democracy for America has reached out to their supporters to inform them that Van Os was part of the “Dean Dozen.” Many of these enthusiastic supporters have already expressed interest in financially supporting and volunteering for candidates Dean endorses.

“It is a great honor to receive the endorsement of Governor Howard Dean" said Van Os. "Governor Dean represents the voice of millions of ordinary Americans and Texans who want to take their government back from the special interests in every branch and at every level of government. This endorsement is a huge boost to my campaign to restore the courts of Texas to the ownership of the people of Texas."

“This year the race for the presidency is unbelievably important,” Gov. Dean said. “Beside our efforts to evict George W. Bush from the White House, we must expand the base of the Democratic Party by competing in tough races across the nation. This group of candidates represents the future leaders of our country.”

Two weeks ago another group of Dean Dozen candidates was announced. Within hours, candidates running for all levels of government saw the impact of this powerful endorsement: Rob MacKenna, candidate for supervisor of elections in Hillsborough County, Fla had 22,840 visits to his Web site the Friday after the endorsement, up from a daily average of 420. Jeff Smith, candidate for US House from Missouri, saw a 600% increase in web traffic in the first 24 hours after the endorsement and has received national media interest in his 10-way primary to fill the vacant seat of Rep. Richard Gephardt (D-Mo.). This intense Web traffic led to increased donations and volunteer support.

Dean will be endorsing a dozen candidates every two weeks. For a complete list, please visit www.democracyforamerica.com/DeanDozen/.

Today there is not a single Democrat among the nine Justices on the Texas Supreme Court. The all-Republican Court has tilted the scales of justice against working people. David Van Os is a practicing attorney of 27 years experience who has built a distinguished record as an advocate of justice for working people. He is a people’s lawyer who will be a people’s judge on a Court that is badly in need of a voice for the people.

Democracy for America is a political action committee dedicated to building a grassroots network to support socially progressive, fiscally conservative candidates at all levels of government.

You don't need a degree in computer science to know that scanning a document does not change a font. Therefore, there are three possibilities here.

1. The man is an idiot;

2. The man is a liar;

3. The man is a lying idiot.

Take your pick.

ANYWAY, Mr. President sped up the process by working hard, unlike JF'nK who spent 4 MONTHS in Vietnam taking pictures & writing up medals for himself.

If you do an OCR scan, it converts to a document, as opposed to making an image.

Doesn't account for the signature. A fake is a fake.

The only way I know of changing a font through scanning is by using Adobe Acrobat (full version) with character recognition, but documents done this way look really bad and it's only done to allow rapid text search.

Otherwise scanning the document is the same as copying except for resolution usually being much better on a scan.

Those dudes are in need of some serious anti-psychotics.

They still believe CBS will somehow be vindicated and the documents will be proved to be real.

No word from them recently on whether O.J. has had any success in searching for the real killers.
