We're okay. Tornados have hit the area tho. Woman wife works with in the kid's consignment sale at the church lost her entire house today. They live out in Henrico County.
I didn't hear much wind here. Just rain.

i guess Greta mentioned that in her what's coming up on H&C, and so i would have eventually heard, but i just logged on FR and saw this thread and thought, holy cow! i saw that one supposedly touched down out in Ashburn. my son plays hockey out there and i had him out at practice multiple days this week. thankfully he had no practice tonight.

We are in the process of moving to Berkeley Springs West Virginia , from Southern NJ.
This is not good.
Our property is 6.5 miles South of Town, and there are reports that a tornado hit about 7 miles south .
We have been moving our belongings to a mobile home on the property until our house is built.
Almost everything i own is there!!
OH boy....

Just a few thoughts:
The fast moving, high energy Ivan hitting a cold front makes the danger worse for twisters.
The I-95 tornado should be watched. Tornadoes follow established paths generally, though not always. This one caught my attention, as well as the tornadoes on posts 95 and 133. Post 133 was BIG.
The tornado in the Chesapeake is officially changed to waterspout which makes it gay sounding thus doing no harm to heterosexually named watercraft. No doubt the twister will not damage the underwater tunnel system (that one was for all the Barney Frank posts).
The Sharpsburg reenactment during a raging super outbreak is a hoot. Those guys are diehards. Ironic really.
Stay safe.

I spoke to a son's family in Ashburn. They had had some kids (ages 10 to 13) over for pizza, and were planning on going to a a local football game. They herded the kids and pizza to the basement to wait it out. They said the kids were great but serious and funny. One boy said they had better go easy on the pizza, as they didn't know just how long they would have to stay holed up!
As of 10PM, their power was still out. Evidently one of the twisters came down down the road from them.
I just heard that the confluence of two weather systems -- Ivan, and something coming in from the West,--- was the cause of so many tornados in that area.

Hope everyone is OK in that tornado area.
Ivan has stalled over central PA this evening.
We have had 4 inches of rain since noon here in Central PA.
The Susquehanna River is expected to flood tomorrow.
Ivan, go away!

I saw, less than a mile away from me, my first tornado in my life.
It was as big as the one in the wizard of Oz, and I saw it form right in front of me.
I was standing outside a hotel in Warrenton VA and there was an enormous circulating black purple cloud directly overhead, spinning off little funnels, and then all of a sudden the middle of the cloud opened and the tornado descended.
It moved laterally and then started moving straight for me and the hotel.
I was outside the hotel, and the hotel manager ran outside and demanded that I come inside and hide in the bathroom.
I said, excuse me, but I've never seen a tornado and I'm watching this one, so I got in my car and watched as it moved toward the hotel
The hotel was between me, alone in my car, and the tornado, and -- I decided that if the roof shingles started flying I would floor the car and get away.(the tornado was traveling 25 MPH -- I thought, I can certainly drive faster than that.)
Then -- as it approached it just -- evaporated --- gone.
It had touched down for about 2 minutes
Oh, and I heard the "train" sound so often reported.
