Gee wiz. Why wasn't Staudt interviewed or quoted by 60 minutes in the first broadcast? You're kidding, right?

Did See BS even try to interview this guy?
To: xzins
The article says he is Colonel Staudt but that he was brigadier general of the unit. Anyone know how this works?
Wouldn't it be funny if CBS called his house, asked if he was General Staudt, and he replied, 'No, this is Colonel Staudt', and CBS figured they had the wrong guy?

Yes. I've been around here long enough that I thought most knew it. But yes, I was being quite sarcastic.
BTW, in this weeks 60 minutes, I understand they interviewed the "old woman" but didn't feel the need to interview or even quote the Wife and son of Killian.
Gawd they are transparent.

I'm no expert on ranks, but I did serve in the Army National Guard. I never heard of Brigader Genral being a temporary rank, but I beleive that a National Guardsman rank was lowered when he trafered into a regular Army unit. For enlisted it was two steps, so that an Platoon Seargent in the guard would be a buck seargent in the regular Army.

This is excellent...and from abc news, of all places.

"(Retired Brig Gen. Staudt) said he decided to come forward because he saw erroneous reports on television. CBS News first reported on the memos, which have come under scrutiny by document experts who question whether they are authentic. Killian, the purported author of the documents, died in 1984.

Retired Col. Walter Staudt, who was brigadier general of Bush's unit in Texas...Well, which was it? If he was a Colonel when he retired, how can he be a Brigadier General in Bush's National Guard unit?
I can't STAND the way 99.99999% of "journalists" are completely ignorant of all things military.
To: Cableguy
Hey, you military persons, tell me, does a Colonel trump a pool secretary?

'due to the importance of the story, we cannot interview anyone who may discredit it'ROFLM....wait--CBS really does think that way!

Actually, ABC News has been the most aggressive on this story. They were the first to interview 2 CBS document experts who said CBS ignored their concerns.
They are really sticking it to CBS and probably picking up the pissed-off viewers.
