Just watched the account on PBS news of the Kerry Guard convention speech. They juxtaposed about 3 minutes of Bush's speech a couple of days ago with 3 minutes of Kerry's speech today. Although they made no verbal comment, the difference was so devastating for Kerry that I am amazed they showed it! (Bush was recieved warmly, smiling faces, appropriate applause, etc.) Kerry on the other hand delivered his defeatist screed to stonefaced silence. The camera panned at times to a few listeners walking out, a few boo's and NOT A SINGLE CLAP BY ANYONE IN THE CROWD! Kerry paused as if waiting for applause a few times, but NOTHING! I was dumfounded that they showed this on PBS!
Did anyone get another view?
Ping to 259
Thanks for the ping...WOndered all afternoon how they received him.....
It IS cool...watching it now.
The Guard received the President as one of their own...it's great to see.
As a vet, I cannot imagine any vet voting for Kerry.
Indiscriminate killing probably means we're sliding back to those bad old days in Vietnam, when we cut off babies' ears and raped and pillaged with abandon.
Could any liberal please explain this to me? I'll just be over here waiting for hell to freeze over.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for posting the times. Just turned on the later showing of GW and then Kerry. GW is GREAT! Standing O's!
Well, Kerry practised John F. Kennedy's signature for weeks early this year, trying to make his own look like JFK's. Kerry's an empty suit. That's the bottom line.
Yes I knew "W" had been received VERY warmly, but I had a small wager with a friend to what degree they would welcome "F". She said they would be cool but cordial. I said they wouldn't reach that level. They would let him know their displeasure of him.
So did I win? If they actually turned their back and walked out, I won.
NOr can I imagine any family member of a vet or person in the service voting for sKerry.....
Watching GW, you can see him speak from the heart. He has points he wants to make, but he adlibs stuff, memories of 9/11, etc.. :'I will never relent in defending our country, whatever it takes!' Standing O. The officer who didn't want to shake hands with Kerry and looked as if he was sucking on a lemon, grinned ear to ear and shook GW's hand like crazy!
Your welcome.

What I truly want to know, is how many MOONED him? Had to be some . I would if I were there.
Kerry jumps onstage, canned band music, one person really clapping. The Buddhist thing with his hands. Yes, he was misintroduced, loved it. Thank you so much, blah, blah. Lame jokes. No laughter, teeny clapping. Pouring on molasses. Definite looking down his nose at 'the Guard', versus his own service.
He wants to thank lots of people, and now Wesley Clarke. Big grin at Clarke, clapping from Kerry, not much from crowd. He wanted to look the guard in the eye and thank them. How he can stand there and praise the guard when he's lied and lied about Vietnam vets, and voted over and over to defund the military. He's crazy. Nodding, agreeing with himself, lame clapping. He says he visited the wounded in military hospitals. He's honoring every last one of them, their service. Is this his apology? Not so. He's turning this into a Bush bashing speech.
Truthful conversation needed about nation's choices. Health care. Sigh. Tricare. That's what I believe. End of story. Lame clapping. Body armor needed, handmedowns from regular forces. We're going it alone in Iraq, by the way. One or two claps while he waited and waited. Another bullet: Backdoor draft, waited, no applause. (Definitely a cold crowd). Keeps dragging Clarke's name into his speech, as if they care. We owe you the truth, true leadership, looking you in the eye and telling you the truth...GW's a liar....blah, blah, blah. More chaos, indiscriminate killings, enemies bolder, stability, security farther away. NYTimes says Iraq in doubt. Hard truth.
GW was wrong to rush to war, inspectors needed time, we needed allies, blah, blah, blah. Extended conflict because we didn't pander to tribal conflicts. Yup, Kerry would have done everything differently. War on terror...GW's eye taken off the ball. Canned claptrap. Lots of snakelike lip-licking. Pandering to the guard, we need 2 new army divisions, double special forces to hunt down terrorists. More blather. Speech way too long. Oh, he has a third part to his plan, military technology to combat nukes, etc..More bad news. GW isn't on the ball with that, either. Finally, (thank God), America can't lead abroad unless we can lead at home...lame applause...govt. needs to spend more money inspecting containers, national guard doesn't have assets to protect homeland. He's going to institute a standing national guard to just protect the homeland from terrorism. Lame claps. A little historical reference...ordinary citizen soldiers defeated an empire, blah, blah. He called them 'brave', odd, not baby killers? Pillagers? Ends speech with God bless the US of A. Now the Buddhist thing again, twice. That must mean something, but it looks foreign and false. Which says a lot of about Kerry, none of which is good. Leaving stage, talking to a few people with SS sons of you know what surround him looking glum.
Will PBS be rerunning that speech by Kerry? I was able only to watch the very beginning of it. That bit, plus a few other bits shown on Fox show Kerry about as wooden as I've ever seen him. He had, a few times, an eye twitch. He knew what they were thinking about him and it made him, I think, angry and nervous.
