Just watched the account on PBS news of the Kerry Guard convention speech. They juxtaposed about 3 minutes of Bush's speech a couple of days ago with 3 minutes of Kerry's speech today. Although they made no verbal comment, the difference was so devastating for Kerry that I am amazed they showed it! (Bush was recieved warmly, smiling faces, appropriate applause, etc.) Kerry on the other hand delivered his defeatist screed to stonefaced silence. The camera panned at times to a few listeners walking out, a few boo's and NOT A SINGLE CLAP BY ANYONE IN THE CROWD! Kerry paused as if waiting for applause a few times, but NOTHING! I was dumfounded that they showed this on PBS!
Did anyone get another view?
Wait it get's better. He gives them a litany of negative things that have gone wrong all because of President Bush not providing adequate equipment to fight the war, etc., etc. And when he tells them about the tax breaks for the rich and money expended in Iraq rather than to provide for our soldiers, not a peep. Does he think these Guards do not read newspapers?
Yes, he said indiscriminate killing. What the h*ll does that mean?
Remember Hanoi Johns sworn testimony before the Senate and his book? In his mind all US military are criminal baby killers.
He's trying now to suck up to the Guard...minimal clapping...
Lurch looks like he will either laugh or cry.
Boy this devastating!
Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.....
Did he say that the kids were writing the parents asking when they would be home?
Don't know if you cuised on the Hau Giang (southern branch) of the Mekong near Chau Phu, but here's a story my Vietnamese wife tells about the Navy guys.
She was only a toddler in 1971, but she distinctly recalls that she was lost one day in her part of town, crying and not knowing how to get home.
A guy in a green uniform and a moustache (that's all she remembers) took her by the hand, gave her some candy, and led her around the village looking for Mom. My wife recalls he stopped a lot of people asking if they knew who she was.
Finally he found Mom and turned my now-wife over to the family.
I've spent a lot of time in that area over the years, and to this day there's not a single person I've met who has anything but fond memories of the Naval presence in those years.
Thought you'd like to know.
Now he is trying to draw out gripes and bad morale. He is telling them how many are injured, how they don't know when they are coming home,,,the man is attackiing morale right in front of them. The contrast with GWB telling them freedom is God's gift and we will preserve ours at any cost is so startling. Now he is telling them they are shortchanged,,
Wasn't there some general (maybe Tommy Franks) who absolutely refused to serve with Clark?
They tell me it is Kerry. I am seeing Dukakis.
Who says you can't have a bad time in Vegas?
Post #58: Best post of the week! Thank you!
Meanwhile, he tries to talk about honor and service and prayer...but that's not enough...several microphone pops...
LOL! "But in our democracy...which is what you defend..." F'n you are one big f'n JOKE!
Yeah, that's inspiring.
Thanks, angkor. I do like to know that.
