"The audience appears to [be] polarized," a top CBS source said from LOS ANGELES on Thursday. "Rightly or wrongly, we're being perceived as 'anti-Bush,' which I do not think is fair to Dan, who is a fine journalist... of course we do not like to see the ratings coming back the way they are this week."

Double duh...

They should be happy, they got me as a viewer for two days this week, after this story broke.

But I'm bored already, so back to FOX.

Executives fear many voters inclined to vote for Bush are now switching off Rather

How can we switch off what we never watch?

The quote you pulled is the key, the top source must be named Clueless Maximus.

This reminds me of the movie "the contender" but ala hollywood style , it was republicans going after dems. It was the story of a VP candidate who was a woman who has supposed pictures of her being used by many men in college. She refused to answer the allegation even though the pictures were frauds and the story was wrong , even though they had witnesses. At the end of the movie , she was asked , if it was all untrue why not answer the allegation and clear your name, she responded , because they had no right to ask the question. Guess what Dan Rather , Pres Bush doesn't answer the allegation because you have no right to ask the question!!!!!

I have been singing the "happy happy joy joy " song for the last couple of days.

I watched him lie his way through Vietnam, watergate, Iran-contra for 30 years and am enjoying this "big Time"

"polarized" indicates people falling on either side of a question. The audience isn't "polarized." They are SICK of your lies and they are ALL siding against CBS. They can't even tell the truth in this.

But Dan Rather IS Anti-Bush. His "investigative reporting" tells us this is so. Why is being fair to Dan even a consideration? Fair is just a 4-letter 'F' word. This source and Rather are typical liberals...they expect to have it both ways. Well...not anymore.

Sorry, but a fine journalist would have ordered an internal investigation on the first day.

A competent journalist would have given some time to critics of the story.

The evidence strongly suggests CBS execs smoke from bongs the size of Clarence Cleamons' saxophone.

The thing is that most conservatives (I would guess) already avoid Gunga Dan (except for maybe the past week).

This means the drop in viewership is among the left-to-middle demographic.

Sweet.

Looks like his program is just about where it belongs, with the other re-run situation comedies.

other than San Francisco,

I don't think this demographic goes unnoticed in newsrooms. Recall that when ABC Nightline interviewed Vietnam veterans on Aug. 9, they coincidentally chose to conduct the group interview in the S.F. Bay area. Also that signature specialist, Matley, who helped verify the questionable Bush documents is based in the S.F. Bay area.

So when the topic is politically controversial, the modus operandi seems to be to seek a "representative sample" which is however sympathetic to the liberal side by taking the sample from a liberal area, such as San Francisco or nearby.
