FIRST LADY INTERRUPTED BY DEAD SOLDIER'S MOM
WINS News ^ | 9/16/04

Posted on 09/16/2004 11:44:50 AM PDT by areafiftyone

A Hopewell woman whose son was killed while serving in Iraq was arrested Thursday after she interrupted a campaign speech by first lady Laura Bush.

Sue Niederer had refused to leave the rally and demanded to know why her son was killed in Iraq. She was eventually escorted from the rally site, a local firehouse, by police.

Niederer wore a T-shirt that bore the words "President Bush You Killed My Son" and a picture of her son, Army 1st Lt. Seth Dvorin.

Dvorin was killed in February while trying to disarm a bomb in Iraq. The 24-year-old had just returned to Iraq after spending two weeks with his family.

The first lady continued speaking after the arrest, touting her husband's record on the economy, health care and the war on terror.

More than 700 people attended the rally in the suburban community of 90,000 near Trenton. Hamilton is home to a large number of state employees. It has traditionally been a swing municipality in local, state and national elections.

Republicans are encouraged that recent polls have indicated an erosion of John Kerry's earlier lead in New Jersey.

A Star-Ledger/Eagleton-Rutgers Poll last week had Kerry at 43 percent to Bush's 39 percent, erasing a double-digit lead once held by the Democratic challenger.

Mrs. Bush made several references to the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks during her speech Thursday. She said that many in New Jersey, including some in neighborhoods near the firehouse, lost family members that day.

"Too many people here had a loved one that went to work in New York that day," Bush said. "It's for our country, it's for our children, our grandchildren that we do the hard work of confronting terror."

Saying that more families have two parents working, she said President Bush will support initiatives allowing for flexible work time and to give increased flexibility in health care coverage.

"We know that families face new challenges and that government should respond to these changing times," said Mrs. Bush.

Welcome to FreeRepublic, Bella.

Yes, I agree, the mother is grieving. My prayer is for her to put her anger to a positive use which I know she will find.

God's Peace Be With Her and God bless her son.

If anyone understands the anguish and pain this mother is feeling, it is the Bush family. As Presidents, father and son have both sent our youth to war. As parents, mothers and fathers, they understand.

nobody put a gun to your sons head and forced him to join the military. I grieve for you loss and thank him for his duty to protect my life but to blame GWB is ignorant.

I would bet that after that speech Mrs. Bush did something to offer condolences and comfort to that woman. Maybe not personally but possibly a letter or note.

Why? Because the Bushes are class people that sincerely care that they have to send soldiers to war. It hurts them also.

Her son volunteered for the service. He became an explosive expert of sorts, is that voluntary? Do they force people to do something so dangerous. Seems like she ought to be asking herself why her son did it and honoring his memory. Those guys in Iraq are all volunteers.

Wow, she's got the "Rachel Corrie" thing going on, doesn't she? That is, if Corrie lived long enough to not be pictured perched atop a bunny's head as demonstrated in some other threads..

Having a hard time with grief is she? so where did she get the time to get the t shirt, get to the rally and make ka specticle of herself. That isn't grief. That is attention seeking.

And exactly how do YOU know Mrs. Roosevelt and Mrs. Lincoln were not subjected to the same thing? I'd betcha money they were. That's just the way it goes. It's sad, war sucks, grieving parents are rarely rational. Such is life.

You will never win support for a war by attacking one perceived as a grieving mother.

A truly grieving person does not use their grief as a political weapon.

She has given her blood for this country same as her son.

Her son did the volunteering and the fighting and the dying, not her. There's nothing the same about it. My brother spent a year over there - should my mom claim to be a veteran?

Sorry you prefer to attack her. How very noble.

I choose to defend her son's legacy from her vile dishonoring of it.

are you saying that she should be muzzled after paying the total price for freedom?

No one said that she should be "muzzled" - I said that a family member should ask her to comport herself with dignity and stop disgracing her son's memory.

And she did not pay the "total price" - her son did. This is about an American hero's memory, not his mother's undignified lust for time in front of newscameras.

In other words - be thankful you don't walk in her shoes and as soldiers are allowed for their wounds to heal, we must allow the mothers/fathers to heal their wounds without further attack.

Sorry. As an American citizen who appreciates what her son did to keep my and my family safe and free, I will continue to tell her to shut her lying mouth and have a little respect for her son.

Interesting prior post re a confrontation with Ms. Niederer:

+++++++

What I can't tell is whether Ms. Niederer was an active International ANSWER/Not in our Name person BEFORE her son was killed. It appears not, but I can't prove it.

I would also add that even a grieving mother doesn't have an excuse to hook up with the traitors of International ANSWER because she lost her son.

Unless, of course, she buys into the idea that America is the root of all evil. When she goes there, her opinions are fair game for criticism as far as I'm concerned.

This woman has been doing this type of thing in connection with various left wing groups since at least March, when I saw her (and fellow freeper Dr. Raoul confronted her) at a March in Dover, DE sponsored by Military Families Speak Out, Sept 11th Families for Peaceful Tomorrows, and ANSWER.

March Thread

Niederer wore a T-shirt that bore the words "President Bush You Killed My Son"

No Ms. Neiderer, you have killed the memory of your son.

Because the Islamists want us all to die.

Ba'athist Iraq was Islamist? And this (supposed) islamism was cited by the President as a casus belli?

She should be asking Bill Clinton. If he would have done his job in the 90's instead of dot com inflation, he would have had bin laden and maybe even overthrown Saddam.

I am with you. She is not grieving. She is seeking attention, attention only gotton by her son's blood. He didn't die for her right to make a fool of herself. He would die of embarassment if he saw her. She is capitalizing on his death.

She better be glad it was Laura Bush instead of Hillary Clinton or Teresa H. Kerry she interrupted. She would, sad to say, be spending a few days in the pokey without trial as punishment.
