Statewide unemployment rates, including those in New York City, have dropped to their lowest levels in three years, state Labor Department data released Thursday shows.
State unemployment dropped to 5.6 percent in August, down from 5.9 percent in July, hitting the lowest level since November 2001.
New York City's unemployment rate was 6.7 percent in August, down from 7.5 percent in July. The August rate was the lowest since September 2001.
Statewide, private sector jobs grew in August for the 12th straight month, adding 6,100 jobs. That reflects a growth of 0.1 of 1 percent, according to the data.
The rate of gains in private sector jobs matched the national average.
Job gains were strongest in August, which was when the city planned and began the Republican National Convention.
"This is a good step," said state Labor Department spokesman Robert Lillpopp. He said the city is poised for a recovery and the state is matching a national recovery from the economic devastation of the terrorist attacks that came with a national recession.
The national recession was inherited by the Bush administration, created under Clinton.
There was no 9/11 recession, but there was a 9/12 recovery.
It is called - President Bush's Economy.
More bad news for the Democrats! Gotta love it.
What's good news for America is bad news for the Dems.
Not sure about downstate but a major reason that for the low upstate unemployment is that people leave the area when they lose their jobs rather than sticking around and looking for new work. The emigration to immigration ratio for Onondaga County (Syracuse and suburbs) is something like 7-1. New York's taxpayers are educating a good part of the work force of the Carolinas and Texas.

It don't mean nothing...It don't mean nothing...
Smile everyone. It is a beautiful day.
