WASHINGTON, Sept. 14 /U.S Newswire/ -- The Law Enforcement Alliance of America (LEAA) proclaimed the expiration of the 1994 Clinton gun and magazine ban a victory for crime fighting. LEAA Executive Director, retired New York police officer James J. Fotis, spoke out in support of the gun ban expiration, "this marks the end of an era, the end of the Clinton gun ban days when real criminals were ignored in favor of failed gun control. From this point forward our nation's lawmakers can focus on laws that target real criminals, not cosmetic firearm features."
LEAA's Fotis added that law enforcement has nothing to fear from the expiration of the Clinton gun ban, because the ban never prevented criminals from obtaining firearms. "Even the Bill Clinton and Janet Reno Justice Department admitted that this law has had no impact on crime," said Fotis, referring to DOJ studies on the impact of the Clinton gun ban.
LEAA police officer members testified before Congress in opposition to this failed law and worked tirelessly to dispel the myth that rank and file officers supported gun control. LEAA exposed the phony police support for the original Clinton gun ban in 1994 by distributing copies of the official orders that compelled officers to appear on the Capitol steps, in support of the ban -- an illegal act of compulsion for political purposes.
"Gun control is has nothing to do with crime control, and that's why the expiration of this law will have no impact on public safety," said Fotis. The retired officer noted that even before the Clinton gun ban was passed, LEAA was fighting to get Congress to pass a law it wrote, allowing off duty and retired officers to carry their firearms in all 50 states. Just two months ago, President Bush signed this life-saving legislation into law. After more than a decade of pushing failed solutions like gun control, common sense legislation like LEAA 'national concealed carry for cops' is finally becoming the law of the land.

Sergio... I think Chinito was not asking about the AWB but rather HR218 which is the national concealed carry for LEO's.
Follow the link a few posts above to the LEAA site to read more about the law.
Bump!
Uh... not quite.
My a*hole boy gov., Rod Blowaguyabit(sp?) wants (or just signed) an IL 'law' overruling this. King Richie Daley doesn't want it either. Both boneheads say it'd be too dangerous for old ex-cops to be packing heat - especially ones from out of state. And they were especially concerned about ex-MP's packing heat - can't trust those crazy soldiers ya know.
