I grew up on the coast, Sam and until Hugo was never afraid. They kept us at the Wpnsta until early afternoon - the highways were clogged and I couldn't get to Aiken to be with 'Bina and my Momma.
I was alright until two things happened - Civil Defense came on and said this is not a drill...
And they had haul Charlie Hall out of the Channel Five Station.
Then my brother called - the lights had been out for several hours - he said he was watching the weather channel and the eye was over Charleston Harbour - then it starting getting real quiet - then it started up again worst than before.
When did Bangledesh send us aid?
I'm dropping the topic....i know everyone is burned out on my anger-frustration.
Remember though....I get clipped one nite pulling cash....i bet you'll read that they found one of those feral drooges shot up on site as well....hopefully.
that or those damn knackers/travellers.....white american gypsies....another plague.
they mostly string coin machines and whatnot but they too are armed.....a few years back around here, a car wash operator had a shootout with a group of them and bagged one of them who made the mistake of taking a shot at him.
best thing when dragging cash is a Doberman or Rottie and then a wheelgun...my wee lads are still allergic to doggie saliva for now or I would already have a Rocky II.

Yes, Hugo was a terrible storm.
I'd been through 2 smaller hurricanes before Andrew, but I found out that they were jokes by comparison.

i'd lived mostly outside the US from 80-96...i had no idea how pervasive the hip-hop thug lifestyle had become
i hate it with a passion....hell, even nickleodeon has that crap on kids shows.

knackers=irish slang for non-romanian white gypsies...they are here too
travellers=same thing as above
stringing coin machines= using a rigged bill to pull back and forth and empty one's bill changer of all quarters....maybe 2-3,000 dollars worth if lucky hit
bagged=killed
clipped= shot...probably killed
wheel gun= revolver pistol
wet work= preemptive violence perhaps involving cessation of life if required to protect oneself or property
