Johnny Ramone, member of punk legends The Ramones, dies at 55
LOS ANGELES (AP) Johnny Ramone, guitarist and co-founder of the seminal punk band The Ramones, has died. He was 55.
Ramone died in his sleep Wednesday afternoon at his Los Angeles home surrounded by friends and family, his publicist said. He had battled prostate cancer for five years, and was hospitalized in June at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.
Ramone, born John Cummings, was one of the original members of the Ramones, whose hit songs I Wanna be sedated and Blitzkrieg Bop, among others, earned the band induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2002.
The bands singer, Joey Ramone, whose real name was Jeff Hyman, died in 2001 of lymphatic cancer. Bassist Dee Dee Ramone, who was born Douglas Colvin, died from a drug overdose in 2002.
Johnny Ramone founded The Ramones in 1974 with Joey Ramone, DeeDee Ramone and Tommy Ramone, the only surviving member of the original band.
You and me both ... I'm going to hoist one in his memory tonight.
As far as drummers are concerned, Tommy was replaced by Marky (my favorite) who was replaced by Ritchie.
I've already hoisted all I had, but tomorrow....
If that's a conservative, this country is lost.
Man O Man
All of them so young...
Prayers for his soul and his family.
I liked his guitar playing. Not too complicated, with a lot of the raw energy that rock and roll is all about. He kept the spirit of Buddy Holly with those short fun songs.
;-(
Where's the link?
In his memory, I'd like to go to Dan Rather and
Beat on the brat
Beat on the brat
Beat on the brat with a baseball bat oh yeah
R.I.P., Johnny
Beat on the brat
Beat on the brat
Beat on the brat with a baseball bat
Oh yeah, oh yeah, uh-oh.
What can you do?
What can you do?
With a brat like that always on your back
What can you do?
They don't write 'em like that anymore. RIP Johnny.

There is one.
Heh! Beat you by THAT much :^)
Greatest rock band ever. Oh, Lord not even close. A good band but way below the stratosphere.
Another rock star dead. When will this madness end? I have some of the Ramones albums too. I think I'll rip them to MP3 and stick them on my iPod.
Saw them a number of times in their heyday. Got their autographs on a blank inner sleeve of the Rock and Roll High School album at a record store signing. Still have it. I got one of them to add "We've seen Freaks too" I would rank their shows at the very top of my concert going experiences. RIP Johnny. Thanks for the memories!!!
NYC old-school GOP-punk-rock sadness here. A shame Johnny can't get to see Bush re-elected... he bravely fought the good fight for our side! RIP!!!! A true legend.
Think I'll blast "Loudmouth" on the headphones...
Considering that the Ramones brought REAL three chord rock and roll back at a time when music was dominated by drugged out pretentious British Homos like Led Zeppelin, ELP and Yes with their 20 minute solos and artistic pretensions, I would say they deserve credit for keeping the genre going.
