I think he let her go on because her presentation was compelling, she was responsive and forthcoming. He had to listen, he was being taken to the woodshed. It was an intervention. Too bad for him, he isn't capable of hearing her excellent criticism and advice.

I've been trying hard to explain O'Reilly's infuriating "man in the middle" shtick, and think I have it figured out.
His ego is such that he can't stand to be associated with any political party or philosophical movement. That would make him just one more member of the group. He wants to be unique, the boss, the head of a party of one: the O'Reilly Party, so to speak.
As an aside, I loved Laura's blatant skepticism and contempt for O'Reilly as he claimed that he hadn't decided whom he's voting for. Schmuck.
He said as much tonight. He wants the lefties to like him, and right-wingers who express their opinions to him piss him off.

Doesn't prevent me from appreciating Laura Ingrahams skills however. She is very, very good. And Catholic and pro life to boot. Some guy is gonna get some catch when she reels him in.
I agree I watch him fairly often and have never seen him that mad.
She really made him think. I believe he might think twice in the future before he calls someone Right or Far Right.
He had no good answer about defending Rather. I have seen him often respond fairly quickly on big stories although he is far better when he can do his research as he doesn't think well on his feet.
He accused all of us of being loons. What a toot. I mean sure there are loons on this site but we learn to ignore them and whip them into shape fairly quick. Someone comes up with a stupid theory and it gets shoot down quick.
