Marian Knox, the secretary to President Bush's National Guard commander, Lt. Col. Jerry Killian, says the content in controversial memos is true but that she did not type them. Knox, who said she was Killian's "right hand," appears in an interview with Dan Rather on the CBS EVENING NEWS and on tonight's edition of 60 MINUTES. A transcript of Evening News report follows. Transcripts of the 60 MINUTES report will be available later this evening.

Interviewing the secretary will only make the documents more false. Having to rely on an 86 year old secretary as to the thoughts of one of her bosses is a bit around the bend.

This is an 86 year old with an ax to grind. She's stated bush was "selected not elected", and "not fit to command'.
Sounds like one of those old Johnson era Yellow Dog Democrats. Still beating g up on an old lady is gonna be tough.

FYI when this "defense" was floated on FOX, Juan Williams of NPR thought it was ludicrous. This dog won't hunt either.

Am I nuts, or do I detect (in the last sentence quoted by Drudge) the hint of a rift between Heyward and Rather? I don't have the exact words in front of me, but it was something to the effect that some people at CBS think the attacks on Rather are political, but (and this is Heyward speaking, I think) that is the exact point of the 60 Minutes' critics.

The only explanation that I can see for CBS's behavior is that if they admitt the documents are forgeries and give up their source, the Kerry campaign will be over. What other explanation can their be?

It's beyond comprehension that any thinking adult will believe information taken from a forged document.
