Well in the good old days, the MSM media only carefully vetted stories that would help the Right. If it helped the Left, they just ran with it. It is a double standard of vetting. One thing about the current Rather situation is not so much the merits, but that CBS is so clearly just trying to prop up their story after questions were raised with witnesses only favorable to it, rather than reporting the evidence on both sides, and trying to address it like a judge or a juror. It is as if CBS is an advocate, an arm of the DNC, a partisan player, a caustic opinion page writer. That is the real scandal here. I am surprised that there has not been more commentary on that precise point.
CBS knows that if they admit the documents are forgeries, W is incoulated from any and all October surprises that the MSM and the democrats have in mind for him. So they will fight this tooth and nail to maintain some semblance of credibility to be able to slime Bush later.
This is a war Torie, a politcal war but a war nonetheless. They will give no quarter, nor should they be given one. The proverbial heel to the neck will be required.
