Live Thread: Kerry on Imus (starts 7:29 EST 09/15/04)
Imus Radio Show ^ | 09/15/04 | Don Imus

Democratic Presidential candidate John Kerry will be the guest at 7:29 am eastern. Senator Kerry has a lot of convincing to do, beginning with the I-Man.. whose support has waned in recent weeks. Despite several polls to the contrary, both campaigns acknowledge a 5-6 point lead for President Bush. Many analysts say it's a result of a post convention bump, and the GOP's ability to make the focus of the election national security and Kerry's record. The challenge for the Senator is to now put the emphasis back on domestic issues while separating the War in Iraq from the War on Terrorism. Can he turn the tide while continuing to play defense? Can he turn all the anti-Bush sentiment into a spark that ignites the Democratic base? Does he think it will ultimately come down to the debates? Will he finally be able to clearly frame his views on Iraq? Is John Edwards the VP candidate he thought he would be? John Kerry has his work cut out.. but, he can take a big step forward on Wednesday morning when/IF he answers the tough questions from IMUS.

Kerry is delusional!

I believe that's why Prime Minister Blair is keeping his distance from Kerry. The Labour Party delegation to the DNC this year was much reduced from 2000.

What I thought was great (looking back now, because I couldn't stand the filibuster) was that Imus let him make his campaign speech and then started hitting him with the questions.

Vets...how & when is the Geneva Convention introduced in ine's military service?

The very first mention of the Geneva and Hague Conventions occurs in Basic Training. Every service member get periodic re-briefings, but in particular, the Rules of Engagement are stated prior to entering any hostile zone.

Given the left's propensity for word parsing, perhaps the senator is confused because these briefings are also know as the "Laws of Land Warfare". Moreover, EVERY service member entering RVN received a wallet-sized card with the basics of the Conventions printed on it - just in case one forgot that one was not supposed to shoot civilians in the back...

Perhaps it was the food at the Soul Cafe yesterday that cause his problem.

Imus? Of his own show, or this stuff? Don't know about his show. I can't believe he didn't know about the window dressing slurs. I did, and I'm just a piranha in pjs.

Did Kerry literally say that, that America went into Iraq alone? If so, I'm going to whip out the old IBM Selectric, I mean word processor, and write a rebuke for Ye Old Blogosphere.

According to post #22 he did
I wasn't watching myself

I found it interesting that Kerry would stall with some loose lips comments all the while I imagined him rushing through his notes with his handlers until he found just the "right" turn of phrase. Except that it's jibberish in any case. The debates are going to be the finale.

BTW, for those who might be curious where the Vets for Truth held their rally on Sunday, it was right over Susan's shoulder between the fountain and the Capitol building.

Ha! You think he ate any of that, or threw it in the dumpster and summoned the caterer like the Wendy's meal he ordered during the Edwards' traditional anniversary visit.

From this link:

Vice President Dick Cheney yesterday accused John Kerry of espousing an anti-American internationalism, charging that the Democratic presidential candidate holds U.S. allies in the Iraq war in "open contempt."

"He speaks as if only those who openly oppose America's objectives have a chance of earning his respect. Senator Kerry's characterization of our good allies is ungrateful to nations that have withstood danger, hardship and insult for standing with America in the cause of freedom," the vice president said in a speech at the Ronald Reagan Library in California.

Listing allies including Britain, Australia, Italy, Spain and Poland, Mr. Cheney said Mr. Kerry calls the nations "window dressing."

"They are, in his words, 'a coalition of the coerced and the bribed.' Many questions come to mind, but the first is this: How would Senator Kerry describe Great Britain coerced, or bribed? Or Italy which recently lost 19 citizens, killed by terrorists in Najaf was Italy's contribution just window dressing?"

Thank you. My estimation of Vice President Cheney also went up a few notches with that as well - from an already very high level.

In light of all the sacrifices our allies have made, I can't understand why this wasn't a bigger deal on your side of the pond.
