Democratic Presidential candidate John Kerry will be the guest at 7:29 am eastern. Senator Kerry has a lot of convincing to do, beginning with the I-Man.. whose support has waned in recent weeks. Despite several polls to the contrary, both campaigns acknowledge a 5-6 point lead for President Bush. Many analysts say it's a result of a post convention bump, and the GOP's ability to make the focus of the election national security and Kerry's record. The challenge for the Senator is to now put the emphasis back on domestic issues while separating the War in Iraq from the War on Terrorism. Can he turn the tide while continuing to play defense? Can he turn all the anti-Bush sentiment into a spark that ignites the Democratic base? Does he think it will ultimately come down to the debates? Will he finally be able to clearly frame his views on Iraq? Is John Edwards the VP candidate he thought he would be? John Kerry has his work cut out.. but, he can take a big step forward on Wednesday morning when/IF he answers the tough questions from IMUS.

"The important thing to remember for an interview like this... it doesn't matter who Don Imus 'likes' thats not what we're looking for... it's what Kerry says. Imus' analysis isn't important now.."
The point is most interviewers who favor dems either don't ask hard questions OR they do ask some of the harder questions but don't hold the interviewee accountable for a deceptive or evasive answer, thereby making the hard question worthless. So, in that respect, it does matter who the interviewer is, though I do understand what you are saying too...Kerry is totally capable of hanging himself if left unattended while he rambles on.

Kerry is doing exactly what wells and o'neil has said he does in debates...
he makes HUGE lies and distortions to fit the moment and make the individual feel good.
here is the kicker. if rumsfeld is a war criminal (i am guessing abu grahib) - then how can imus vote for kerry.
like i posted before, the appearence was nothing more than an opportunity to talk to one of the key "swing voter" cores out there.
My main question to imus would be this: if you were duped by Clinton, then why cant you see what kerry is doing?
To: xm177e2
Kerry is all over the place because he never sticks to the script... he's a walking contridiction... there is no logic to his positions

Somebody, please post a transcript.
Microsoft Word 71, etc, would probably work ok.

"saw what I saw, I thought he was only reporting what others told him (I know he said that to weasel out of it) or (per Pitkin - sp?) what he could coerce others into telling him!

How ugly?
Surprising, given the softball interview.
Imus and his sidekick (???) are almost depressed over Kerry's interview and answers. They've said everything but that Kerry should throw in the towel.
Mary Beth (Kerry's Campaign Manager) taking on Karl Rove (Bush's Campaign Manager) is a "terrible mismatch", according to Imus.
Imus wonders publicly where the hell John Edwards is.
Perhaps the whole interview was "designed" to bring viewers exactly to that conclusion.
Maybe we'll discover a few years from now that Kerry's on some serious drugs.
Now ... Imus wants Paul Wolfowitz executed (not making this up) for allegedly war crimes.
Imus complains he can't sleep at night over Bush's arrogance for the war, plus the (alleged) U.S. military's total lack of preparation for the war.
Imus now calls Cheney and Rumsfield in for a challenge for a literal fistfight because they "lied" about Iraqi WND.
Comments over.
Personally, I think Dick Cheney might have trouble going a few rounds with Imus, considering Cheney's heart condition. Then again, Cheney would cold-cock that weasel in the first three minutes.
Donald Rumsfeld would send Imus packing to the Pearly Gates.

I guess the boob doesn't think the Brits took Basra etcHaven't you heard, the only countries that matter to Kerry are France and Germany?
This man slanders the sacrifice of our lads and the blood they spilled. Electorally speaking, to use a military term, he should be terminated with extreme prejudice.

"He couldn't do that in a real press conference or confrontational interview. They would ask specific questions about such things as his Xmas Eve in Cambodia, his first PH, his antiwar activites and meetings with the enemy in time of war, etc."Huh? Are we talking Main Stream Media press conference? You sure about that? ;-)

Sure specific questions would be asked and his answer would be the same. He is not answering questions that are based on lies. If Kerry tried that approach of blatant stonewalling at a public press conference, he would be torn apart by the media and project a very negative public image. It is not necessary to quote Unfit for Command. The media could just ask him about his speech in 1986 on the Senate floor that he spent Xmas Eve in Cambodia, i.e., it was "seared" into his memory. The media just needs to use Kerry's own words and records. They could ask Kerry why he won't sign a SF 180 to release all of his military records. Or did he attend a VVAW meeting in Kansas City at which the assassination of USG officials was discussed?

Often treatment for burns involves sewing hands, arms, etc under the skin of the inner thigh which keep it bathed in nourishment and clean.

"Craig Crawford told Imus earlier that he was fortunate to have Kerry on because he hasn't been talking to any of the other media."
Boy is that an understatement! According to Linda Vester of FoxCable News Channel, "he has not spoken to the press core TRAVELING WITH HIM in the past 31 days!' I heard that on her show two days ago so if that still holds it would be 33 days. This is NOT the behavior of a man running for president. I say he is not running for president at all but just running in place to hold the place open for Hillary in 2008.

Did Kerry literally say that, that America went into Iraq alone? If so, I'm going to whip out the old IBM Selectric, I mean word processor, and write a rebuke for Ye Old Blogosphere.
Insult the lads will he, I'll shove a literary shotgun in his mouth and pull the trigger.

leadpenny, please stop defending Imus... He really is pathetic -- and that's why Kerry comes on: puff-balls to answer remotely with supposedly 10 million people listening (I'd bet it's closer to 1 million). Imus was Clinton's savior in 1992. Imus tried to work his magic for McCain. And now he's shilling for this nut job.
But now Kerry can say "I'm taking interviews! I'm answering the questions for journalists! BRING IT ON!!!!! Do you know who I am????? Those are a pack of lies -- that's all you need to know about that!!!!!" And don't expect Imus to probe any of those Kerryisms.

Thanks! Excellent summary. I'm glad I missed it.
FWIW, I think Kerry and Imus both got what they wanted. Kerry got some national air time in a venue he had less to worry about. And Imus got ratings. And to Heck with both of them.

Treatment for open wounds such as burns to the hands often involves sewing the hand/arm under the skin of the thigh for a period of time. This helps healing by keeping the injury clean and provides nourishment.
To: MadIvan
Kerry and Edwards have both referred to you, our allies, as window dressing.
Why no one ever mentions how that's bad for foreign relations is beyond me.
