Snubbed cops union backs Bush

The nation’s biggest police union has voted to endorse President Bush, after Sen. John Kerry failed to respond to its candidate questionnaire.

The 318,000-member Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) made its decision at its national board meeting in Albuquerque on Sept. 10. This is the first time in the group’s history that it has made a unanimous endorsement, FOP Executive Director Jim Pasco said.

He said the Kerry campaign declined to return the group’s lengthy and detailed questionnaire despite repeated reminders, angering union members.

“Not only are we strongly supporting Bush,” Pasco said, “we’re mad at Kerry. Our members feel he treated them without respect — 318,000 cops. He’s galvanized our base against him. It’s just stupid.”

The group endorsed President Bush during his 2000 election race, although it backed Bill Clinton in 1996. The group endorsed George H.W. Bush in 1992...

But Kerry did answer the questionnaire, before he didn't.

Probably not nuanced enough for Kerry. Either that or he wanted to fill it out twice, to take both sides of each question.

I would be interested to know who the FOP have supported in the past. If mainly democRATS than this is big.

Are the Fraternal Order of Police a Union? I thought they were sort of a benevolent society.

I ask because I joined them one time (I'm not a policeman, or anything close) and got a card and, best of all, a badge-looking decal to put on my windshield. I avoided a couple of tickets by having it.

Kerry is running the worst possible campaign. And I couldn't be happier.

That's okay, next week 60 Minutes will produce a memo by the head of the FOP endorsing Kerry.

They backed Bush in 2000 after the membership overruled the directors.

I believe they backed Klinton twice.

With all the advisers Kerry has recently brought on this wasn't handled. It seems to me that maybe the advisers came on to make sure that Kerry wouldn't win. Dufus is getting skerrier by the minute

to take both sides of each question

Guess he got hung up on the directions, i.e, 'Mark only one answer'.

One more group that Kerry has alienated. Let's see, one group at a time and by Nov 2nd only the perpetual kool-aid drinkers will be in sKerry's corner. That would mean a repeat of the Mondale/McGovern election results. We will send our traitorous, lying ketchupman into oblivion.
