Lt Col Killian's secretary says she didn't type the docs. From the Dallas Morning News (registration required):
"The former secretary for the Texas Air National Guard colonel who supposedly authored memos critical of President Bushs Guard service said Tuesday that the documents are fake, but that they reflect real documents that once existed.
Marian Carr Knox, who worked from 1956 to 1979 at Ellington Air Force Base in Houston, said she prided herself on meticulous typing, and the memos first disclosed by CBS News last week were not her work.
These are not real, she told The Dallas Morning News after examining copies of the disputed memos for the first time. 'Theyre not what I typed, and I would have typed them for him.'"
Federal law does not apply to democrats.
Grey Throat
It is one possible explanation as to why they were not at least minimally checked out -- him either trusting her, or willing to fall on his sword to help her!!!
A person can be against Bush, but also against a dishonest attack against him. She may indeed be a Democrat, but I can live with honest fair minded democrats (which most of them are not).
She is lying.
There is no other docs.
People who write "cya" memos to file do not write just one in the course of a career. Where are the other "cya"s? Did she type ANY of them?
Which ones?
On what subjects? (she has such a good memory)
she is a liar.
That's just what they want you to think. :^)
The next question is did she talk to CBS prior to 60 Minutes?
Now, that is funny! LOL
This says or implies that she knew of other documents, however this from the Dallas Morning Star by way of Rather Biased says
"Knox did say that she recalled "all the yak-yak" about Bush's service at the time and acknowledged that the documents did reflect that to some degree.
The retired secretary raised a number of other questions about the CBS memos including stylistic and wording questions, adding, however that the documents may have been typed up at a later point by someone else who had somehow obtained handwritten notes that Killian may have written. **
Seems like shes saying maybe someone found some handwritten notes and typed them up, but she does't know of any memos that actually existed
> She is partisan, and she is admitting the documents
> weren't typed by her.
Which means that her pride is stronger than her
partisanship.
Had the forgeries been up to her personal standards
for work product, I wonder if she would have
disclaimed them.
In any case, although we can doubt her gossip, I
see nothing to suggest that she's lying about not
being the author.
"INCONCEIVABLE"
This lady reminds me of my 85 year old mother. She is a Southern democrat. She voted for Eisenhower and Nixon. When Carter was elected they got caught up in "the first Southern President since reconstruction". When Reagan beat him they became very bitter toward GOP.They even defended Clinton with his draft dodging and moral lapses.
fox news just had someone from microsoft on, they made up a copy of the document and printed it on an overhead transparency and laid it on top
"Mrs. Knox"
Come now, come now, Mrs. Knox, ma'am,
this is simply more ballocks, ma'am.
It just gets worse, the more Dan talks, ma'am.
Would you buy it with a goat, sir?
What about on a Swift Boat, sir?
What if there's a hand-writ note, sir?
No ma'am, No ma'am, I'm not buying
I think Danny Rather's lying.
I think this is just more crap, ma'am
Please don't take me for a sap, ma'am.
I've had enough now, Mrs. Knox, ma'am.
I'm going to watch the news on Fox ma'am.
they just mentioned that, then the lady who mentioned it turned and started attacking the swiftboat vets. the guy from microsoft as well and the whole panel chewed her head off. I wish i knew who these people are, but im too busy playing video games :P I have to beat castlevania for ps2 today before its due back at the video store :P
The woman is 85 or 86 yrs old, just how credible is her memory? She has definate democrat leanings, and of course there would be scuttlebutt in the office wondering if Bush got favorite treatment, that should be a given, he came from wealthy political family.
I was in USNR for many years, and a Yeoman too....the office is where most rumors start. People with boring lives speculate on those who are doing things (pilots), are rich, or come from important families...BUSH WAS ALL THREE...he must have kept tongues wagging. True or Fiction, people talk and most of it is garbage nonsense.
The guy who runs http://www.ibmcomposer.org/ says no.
He claims it's remotely possible an IBM executive could. Examples of type from an executive next to the 'original' and word examples can be seen at http://www.selectric.org/selectric/ Also at that sight is a link to hypothetical instructions on creating the memo with a composer.
Stick a fork in it.
