GOP: Ohio Gay Marriage Vote Could Bring Republicans to polls; Aid Bush
wcpo ^ | 9/14/04 | Liz Foreman

Republicans supporting a proposed constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage in Ohio say the issue could bring more conservatives to the polls, helping President Bush win the state.

Secretary of State Kenneth Blackwell sent a letter to supporters last month saying the marriage issue is important in determining where Ohio's electoral votes will go. And Bush adviser Karl Rove told reporters at the Republican National Convention last month that having the amendment proposal on the November ballot helps their campaign.

Democrats and gay-rights activists say comments such as those show the marriage ban is little more than a ploy to get conservatives to vote.

Ohio's amendment proposal was certified for the ballot last week but it's still being challenged in court.

I still say that Michigan will go to the Bush camp because of the marriage Amendment too - but I don't ever see anyone discussing this

Ohio voters are 2:1 against same sex marriage, according to polling.

Homosexual Agenda Ping - Isn't it interesting that LIE-berals, particularly the wonderful people who bring us the "gay" agenda - hate and fear the voice of the people? They are always trying to block the people from voting about same sex marriage and any issues relating to promoting or normalizing homosexual behavior and so-called identity.

Homosexual pushers are philosophically related to Nazis.

If anyone wants on/off this pinglist, ping your name to me, ItsOurTimeNow and Scripter - I will be off from doing the pinglist, but hope to be back involved shortly.

I saw Paula Zahn (another ratings bust for CNN bwa ha ha ha ha ha!) today say on Judy "Mrs. Al Hunt" Woodruff's show "Inside Politics". Zahn quoted some poll in Michigan that said only 45% support a ban on gay marriage. 51% would oppose the ban. Weird. Has Michigan gone that loco?

I doubt it. Without knowing the source of the poll, I can't say anything about it's methodology, but polls on this issue consistently under-estimate the true sentiment against gay marriage (see Missouri - 71% for defending traditional marriage vs. 29% opposed; polls underestimated margin by 10-20%). Don't forget also the large number of African-American voters in Detroit. They are the most consistently anti-gay marriage of any ethnic group.

The reason why a Reagan Republican (Rudy Giuliani) was elected mayor of NYC in 1993 had a lot to do with a ballot initiative. Staten Island wanted to secede from the city.

There was no way the initiative was going to succeed city wide and it would have failed in the state courts and legislature.

Having the measure on the ballot *did* result in massive turnout in Staten Island. This was crucial in putting Rudy over the top and removing the city from the clutches of Mayor Dinkens.

Kenneth Blackwell should run for governor.

It's a poorly kept secret that he will run as will Betty Montgomery and Jim Petro. I plan on volunteering for Blackwell as early I can.
