Someone got hold of my ATM card number this weekend and, after an espresso stop at a Singapore Cafe and a bus ticket purchase in Chile, made a $5.00 donation to Moveon.org.

Are you for real, or is this just a funny?

I am absolutely serious, or "series", if you prefer.

When my wife told me about this a few minutes ago I about kicked the cat.

Two years ago, someone got ahold of our check card #, and used it twice in Europe for small amounts, on to a PETA org. and once to a Save the Childrens fund. Both times were very small amounts (under $5.00) so we didn't notice them until AFTER we had been billed 2 times within a 24 hour period to the tune of almost $5,000.00. Our bank, and the police figured the first two charges were just "tests" to make sure the number was correct and that the account wasn't closed.

We got all of our money back eventually, but we had to freeze our checking account (plus by this time it was almost empty) until it could be proven that we weren't scamming them. All of the transactions took place in Germany and Great Britain, so they were able to prove it pretty quickly.
