KERRY LIED rally in DC Part 3

The crowd frequently chanted “Kerry lied while good men died.” Capt. Larry Bailey, USN (Ret) said that many of our comrades died because of people like John Kerry and Jane Fonda and we all cheered.

Then came Steve Pitkin from Baltimore. Steve actually knew John Kerry in a very close and personal way. Steve was a member of Kerry’s Vietnam Veterans against the War and testified extensively at the Winter Soldier Hearings in Detroit. Steve passionately asked for our forgiveness.

He explained how he’d said he’d seen no atrocities committed by Americans in Vietnam where he was a actually in combat soldier “unlike most of the other Winter Soldiers.” Kerry brow beat him intensely threatening to make him walk home to Baltimore if he didn’t testify about “something.” He then admitted that he made stuff up as Kerry looked on approvingly nodding his head.

“Please forgive me!” he pleaded, “please forgive me, I lied!” As a group we all forgave him.

This was really a GRANDFATHERS’ PROTEST. Like me, most of us guys were grandfathers. John O’Neill had referred to this when he pointed out that over 56,000 of our comrades never got to age 58 or 59 and never got to become grandfathers, and Joh Kerry had defamed those dead heroes.

Being a Grandfathers (and some Grandmothers) event, the atmosphere was extremely friendly, neat and organized. The wife and I marveled about how clean the portapotties were even after several hours and thousands of uses.

I asked a grizzled Capitol Policeman how many people were there and he said “over 5,000.” I asked “10,000?” and he said no. The organizers said the turnout was eight to ten thousand. The AP said there were only 1,000. People were constantly coming and going and I did notice that, at its peak, the entire grassy area was covered with folks and that extended far into the wooded areas.

Security was provided by about fifty Biker Vets who’d arrived in a noisy flag bedecked convoy from Union Station. These guys were great in their military patch bedecked black leather jackets. There were a handful of cops here and there but they were pretty invisible and friendly overall.

Cindy, Barbara and I were very satisfied as we trudged off in the direction of our hotel that seemed so far away.

I had remarked on the varying age groups that were there. I saw another vet go by wearing an 11th Airborne ball cap like the one I was wearing which was my husband's. The other vet was probably one of the WWII vets of that division as he looked a good bit older than my husband. It had to have been very heartening to our veterans to receive the support and thanks that was expressed to them Sunday and to have seen that there were some younger ones coming along who also appreciate them.

I still haven't watched the tape my mother made. I've heard the audio on C-Span wasn't the best. At least they were there.

I wish my Gary could have been there to have finally heard that there were people appreciative of his years in the military. He was in our most unpopular wars, Korea and Viet Nam. When I think of his homecoming at the airport in San Francisco, I can melt into tears for him. I hope he was watching from somewhere up above. He did know how proud I was of him and still am.

And now, I'm going to get ready to go to a small town nearby and visit one of the smaller versions of "The Wall" that moves all around the country. The one in DC was halfway obscured as they were doing renovations.

I can say that I'm glad I was there and a part of something that returned some dignity to these veterans.

Thanks for telling the story on the ground. I watched the entire rally on C-Span. When Steve Pitkin got up and spoke, I don't know who was more emotional, him or me. I realized after he finished I had tears streaming down my face. I don't know why. I'm not a vet. I didn't know his story before hand. I guess it just hit me like a brick. This man had done something when he was young (going with Kerry) he was not proud of. Then went back and served for another 20 years... and, still felt the need to go to this rally and apologize. I thought the vet's responses were a class act too. "We forgive you", they said. Whew. And NOT ONE DAMN WORD about it from the MSM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Testimony Based on Testimony?

A Vietnam veteran who testified in the so-called "Winter Soldier Investigation" in 1971 now says he was encouraged by anti-war leaders, including John Kerry, to make up statements.

In a recently signed affidavit, Steven Pitkin says, "John Kerry and other leaders of [a Winter Soldier] event pressured me to testify about American war crimes, despite my repeated statements that I could not honestly do so. ... Kerry and other leaders of the event ... instructed me to publicly state that I had witnessed incidents of rape, brutality, atrocities and racism, knowing that such statements would necessarily be untrue."

Kerry's campaign has said Kerry's testimony on war crimes in Vietnam was based on others' specific testimony.

I don't really know what was done with the hecklers. I did see two policemen with some fellow in between them when I went to the tables set up along the back to get some pins and bumper stickers. The policemen looked like they were just escorting him out of the park. There was no struggling or handcuffs, nothing like that. Just calmly walking out.
