Senator Edward M. Kennedy says he is not too worked up about the shape of the presidential race right now despite the fact that his junior colleague from Massachusetts is trailing in the polls.
Meeting with reporters this morning, Mr. Kennedy, an ally of Senator John Kerry, exhibited his long memory about political events. He recalled that the polls were swinging wildly in the 1968 race between Richard M. Nixon and Hubert H. Humphrey and that Mr. Humphrey gained 10 points in a matter of days as the race went into the final stretch, though he ultimately lost a close decision.
"I think it is just a question of time," Mr. Kennedy said about the prospects of Mr. Kerry righting his ship.

And he did what he could to try to help, reiterating his new line of attack that the Bush administration is guilty of "incompetence" when it comes to Iraq as well as its handling of the economy and health care costs. The senior senator from Massachusetts also referred to criticism of the military strategy in Iraq from outgoing Lt. Gen. James T. Conway, a senior Marine commander, reported this week by The Washington Post.
"This is the beginning of the military leadership questioning the political leadership," Mr. Kennedy said.

That's part of Kennedy's problem, thinking people are in ships when they're not. Time for an intervention.

Actually, "right" is not a term that comes naturally to Kennedy. "Left" is more to his liking. His politics are "left", and he "left" Mary Jo in the submerged car , and then he "left" the scene altogether as he scrambled to put together an alibi. And, after all was said and done, he was "left" with egg on his face.

When Ted tried for the Presidency he thought no one would remember or care about Chappaquiddick.
Now another Senator from Massachusetts, John Kerry, is running for President and he too thinks no one will remember or care about him calling all Vietnam vets wars criminals.
What is it about Massachusetts politicians?
