Suddenly, everyone's turning against us Baby Boomers
Richmond Times Dispatch ^ | 9/14/04 | RAY MCALLISTER

Whoa! What's happening?

Why are people turning on us?

We're the Baby Boomers, you know.

The Mighty Boomers.

We invented everything from money to music to sex, did we not? Nothing good ever happened until we came along.

Now people are turning on us.

We Baby Boomers are being made to feel . . . guilty.

Ridiculous, isn't it?

People have tried to make us feel guilty before. They said we consumed too much. Or we were too shallow. Or we only thought about ourselves.

Excuuuuse me.

Who should we think about? Somebody else?

All that was just jealousy. Even Tom Brokaw came along and said the World War II generation was "the greatest." Jealousy. Pure jealousy.

Sure, they saved the world.

Did they ever throw a party like Woodstock?

Is that the typical reaction of most people on this ping list?

Sweet and innocent question, wanting an equally sweet answer....

I'd like to express my appreciation to the Gen-X and Gen-Y people who are paying for my retirement. It is much appreciated. I imagine that as I sit here in leisure, playing on FR, and going to my volunteer work, that you all are slaving away on the job. Well, thanks again.

Does that include FReepers who provided for their retirement, never stole anything, and paid all their taxes?

Generations X and Y can't wait to put us in a home.

As the high costs of Medicare and Social Security make it difficult to impossible for working people to pay their (confiscatory) taxes, Baby Boomer elderly will become second class citizens. They will be attacked and murdered in their homes to reduce their numbers, and the police will turn a blind eye.

Then euthanasia will be legalized, first state by state and then nationally, to take care of the Baby Boomer problem. Elderly family members will be encouraged to "take the needle" so that property can be passed on to family members whose need is greater. Simply sign the official government kiss-off form, drop your elderly parent off at the hospital, and get your hands on that property.

Pro-lifers will be caught between their beliefs and balance sheets. They will suggest that Social Security cease to be a check, but changed to payment-in-kind. Social Security villages would be set up on abandoned government installations, and indigent Baby Boomers would be fed, clothed and housed at government expense, but no money would change hands. US Geriatric Hospitals, merged with the VA Hospitals, would take care of their medical care and be a substitute for Medicare, which would be abolished due to its high costs.

It will take another generation before family ties can be estabished on a basis of trust without the elderly fearing that younger family members will drop them off at the government-run suicide parlor to get their money.

I'm doing my best to turn my kids and other young people against the older generations. If selfish old people continue to demand to be 'taken care of' by the government, my children and grandchildren's generations are going to be paying the bills. If they are going to have political clout, they are going to have to form a strong voting bloc to take on the seasoned citizens stranglehold on political power.

Place the blame on their parents. The Greatest Generation said, "My child will not have to go through what I went through. He will have every advantage."

The Y generation sees this and thinks it is the fault of the boomers, but it isn't and it doesn't matter since the Y generation seems to be getting their act in gear. X gen is, too, but it wasn't certain at first.

I was born in Dec 1964. So I'm an "almost Gen Xer".

And yes the gubberment will raise your taxes to pay for my retirement unless something happens to stop it.

Thank you for your service. I was there from '69 - '72, and damned proud of it.

I'm just countin' down the years, man, just countin' down the years...

At the end of which, you'll be old, too (good deal considering the alternative), and then everything that you did to the Boomers will be done to you in turn. With your permission!

Dummy.

The reason you are hated is because you are going to break the SS system. You need to work until you die.

LOL It's starting to tick me off, too. In addition to the above, we're also the most taxed generation in history.

We're the ones who floated those student loans for you. We're still floating those loans.

We're the ones who paid and paid and paid since our youth to support our Grandparents and then our Parents.

Now that it nears our turn in the Sun, everyone hates us. Now that there is light at the end of the tunnel, they're trying to change Income Tax laws so that we'll continue to pay thru the teeth.

I'm proud of us. We've supported half the dam world with our elbow grease.

It seems to me the only spoiled, shallow generation is the one that now doesn't want to do for us what we've always done for the rest....and we did it without whining.

Boomers only wanted 1/2 a kid so they could spend all of their time and money on themselves, that's why they made birth control and abortion the law of the land. Now there aren't enough people to take care of them. Boo hoo.

Don't worry boombers we'll let enough illegal aliens in to pay social security and take care of you.

They tore up the maps to the norms of the society and then said " go ... we freed you" Well maybe we didn't want to be "freed" like that. Now it is up to my generation to put back the peices of the maps into some kind of recognizable system before the whole framework deteriorates away.

Yes I am bitter at that generation and I will make sure that it goes as hard for them when they are the most dependent and vulnerable.

Dear boomers,

Retirement and healthcare aren't entitlements.

Learn it. Live it.
