Poison pen celebrity biographer Kitty Kelley shot herself in the foot on the "Today Show" this morning, when she claimed to have inside knowledge that "Today" host Matt Lauer once played golf with President George H.W. Bush - a charge refuted by Lauer on the spot.Lauer was questioning Kelley about why, after four years of investigating three generations of the Bush family, she couldn't find one positive thing to report: LAUER: The reality has to be that there are some nice things that need to be said about them. And why aren't they in this book?
KELLEY: Matt, you've played golf with former President Bush.
LAUER: I've never played golf with him.
Kelley did not challenge Lauer on his denial - or explain how many sources she had for her false claim.
Still, undeterred by yet another misreport, Kelley contended that the Bush family enjoys a "Donna Reed Show" family image, when the truth is closer, she claimed, to "The Sopranos."
...ey, fuggeddaboudit.
On Edit:
"Bingo. Their protective bubble has burst and they're on notice - The Pajama People are watching and not the brainless people they thought or hoped.
"The Night of the Pajama People".
MSM is running scared. Nobody wants to be caught like Rather was. TODAY booked Kitty for three days; salivating, I'm sure, at the thought of slamming the President for three straight days. Then after Rathergate they realized they'd better either drop the three days or actually ask tough questions to vet the book (at least based on what I've read - I haven't seen the show). Don't think this is good journalism or that they're enjoying it, they're just scared of being caught up in the lies now that folks are being caught. If Rathergate keeps going, CBS may start looking for a new anchor.
If you're the president of the United States, do you really want to be involved in a libel lawsuit? interrogatories, depositions, testimony on the stand - certain things you'd have to admit to under oath or certain things you couldn't admit to under oath. If they file the lawsuit, they've got the burden of proof. Way too messy. Better to just ignore it.
Is that going to become a new FReeperism? I like it.
"Or maybe they just don't want to be Dan-Rathered!"
I like to think that there is a possibility that some of the MSM are beginning to see the light....That is, only after I've eaten hallucenogenic mushrooms. :-0
How bout Buckheaded?
He was not very nice to her on Mondays show. 'Bout time someone took her down a peg or two.
