Lauer to Catty Kitty: You Got My Story Wrong, Too
NewsMax.com ^ | 9/14/04 | Carl Limbacher

Posted on 09/14/2004 6:42:49 AM PDT by kattracks

Poison pen celebrity biographer Kitty Kelley shot herself in the foot on the "Today Show" this morning, when she claimed to have inside knowledge that "Today" host Matt Lauer once played golf with President George H.W. Bush - a charge refuted by Lauer on the spot.

Lauer was questioning Kelley about why, after four years of investigating three generations of the Bush family, she couldn't find one positive thing to report: LAUER: The reality has to be that there are some nice things that need to be said about them. And why aren't they in this book?

KELLEY: Matt, you've played golf with former President Bush.

LAUER: I've never played golf with him.

Kelley did not challenge Lauer on his denial - or explain how many sources she had for her false claim.

Still, undeterred by yet another misreport, Kelley contended that the Bush family enjoys a "Donna Reed Show" family image, when the truth is closer, she claimed, to "The Sopranos."

Matt is smart enough to know that he and NBC will be held to account if they give a pass to such trash

Lauer sees that Bush is likely going to win. If he's 'smart' in trashing Kitty Litter, it's only because he doesn't want to be on the next administration's sh*t list.

The MSM sees the handwriting on the wall, i.e., a probable Bush victory. Post election, they don't want to be frozen out of sources and interviews from Bush Administration II.

I wonder if this "interview" would have gone differently if Rathergate hadn't hit the fan.

No doubt! Nothing like a major embarrassment to one of their own to make the MSM change their lying ways -- even if it's only temporary.

We have the Swift Boat Vets to thank, too, for exposing Kerry. Even the shameless MSM must feel red-faced for not doing their job and vetting the Dim candidate before he got nominated.

Think of what the interview would be like if Rather did it.

Does this KK have any credibility? I mean, is anyone buying her book?

Not one thing good to say about the Bush Family?

I wonder if the reason for Lauer being so harsh with her is his own recent trashing by the tabloids? Or maybe they just don't want to be Dan-Rathered!

Bingo. Their protective bubble has burst and they're on notice - people are watching and not the brainless people they thought or hoped.

I don't think the elegant Barbara would stoop to such a thing as strangling people with her pearls, but I wish she would! ;-D

If there ever was a reason for a law suit, this is it.

Filing a lawsuit would only give Kitty-Litter Kelley the notoriety (and book sales) she wants. The gossip rags print that crap because is sells magazines. If they pay some shlub $10 Million for a false story that netted them an extra $20 Million in revenue, they're still ahead, aren't they?

Lauer is being appropriately skeptical of Kitty's litter---appropriately being the operative word, and this is itself a hugh sign that Lauer doesn't want to get buckheaded on this story. He's going ahead and putting it out there, but not cheerleading for it a la Rather.

This is a series sign that the LSM is series-ly worried about being fact-checked and bias-exposed by the pajama people.

KELLEY: Matt, you've played golf with former President Bush.

Reminds me of Kerry's "are you a Republican" reply in order to dismiss a valid question.

MawMaw Bush (as we affectionately call her) has lost a beautiful little daughter to leukemia, raised a house of sons, been to the political well and back - you bet she's TOUGH. We love that woman!! And no, the senior Bushes don't have the billions of the ketchup woman - you won't read in the regular media except in Houston what they do for the M D Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. The Robin Bush Child and Adolescent Clinic at M. D. Anderson Cancer Center was named for their daughter in June 2004 in recognition of the extraordinary generosity and commitment of George and Barbara Bush to the M. D. Anderson mission to eliminate cancer.

Thank you so much for posting that, with the link. I have (I admit it) a deep love and respect for Barbara Bush, though I have never met her. I see her as very strong, very capable, and deeply likeable.

Imho, she's elegant. ;-D Sort of our own "Queen Mum" only much younger. ;-D

How about this for a slogan:

"TELL THE TRUTH. THE PAJAMA PEOPLE ARE WATCHING YOU."

On a similar note, Nightline ran a couple of pieces on where the election is at this point, and why Kerry is behind. They handled the flip-flop charge on Iraq very objectively, and dare I say, slightly anti-Kerry. They detailed all his flip-flop statements and actually questioned them. I was surprised.

Ding-ding-ding! Absolutely correct. THE TODAY SHOW must have at least some credibility with the Bush Administration. Since "The Perky One" has not, Matt Lauer must have some. They don't want to go through 4 years where their most important "get" from the Bush Administration will be the FEMA chief giving hurricane damage alerts.
