Rather's CBS Colleagues in 'Deep Distress'
NewsMax .com ^ | 9/14/04 | Carl Limbacher

Publicly Dan Rather's CBS colleagues are putting up a brave front as the disgraced newsman desperately tried again last night to defend himself against charges he used forged documents in a bid to discredit President Bush's military record.

But at CBS headquarters in New York the anxiety level has hit the red zone, with even Rather's allies saying they're dazed and confused over his shaky performance. "I'm distressed," one longtime CBS correspondent, who asked not to be identified, told the New York Times.

Another network source described the atmosphere at Black Rock as one of "deep concern."

"I'd say [it's] not panic," he quickly added. "We all want it to be right. Dan really put himself on the line and I can't imagine him knowingly defending something he knew not to be the case."

Another CBS source said there was increasing nervousness over the star anchorman's decision to stonewall on an independent investigation into his dubious Guard report.

"I've talked to colleagues who would love to see more of a defense," he told the Times.

Even Rather's longtime "60 Minutes" colleague, Mike Wallace, found it hard to defend his embattled co-worker.

"I'm confused by some of what I've heard today," he offered, before insisting that if Rather's documents were indeed forged, it was an innocent mistake.

"You're dealing with genuine professionals. The last thing in the world that any of these people would want is to phony something," he told the Times.

How about just some honesty?

Yeah, OK....

Rush said he was due to retire next spring.

Drudge Radio said that Sunday, too. Drudge added that Brokaw is retiring shortly, and it just wouldn't do to have them
stepping on each other on the way out.

Industry types have said that CBS will do everything possible to allow Dan to retire on his own terms.

A Freeper pointed out that Dan probably has Hilary and her 900 FBI files helping put pressure on the network execs, too.

Yah, the last thing they would do is phoney up GM pickups to explode. Sure that was ABC, but they were genuine professionals. But then so are hookers.

Bernie Goldberg says Dan would never knowingly promote forged documents...no BM spokesperson has said differently...

The brotherhood is making the handshake...fine. What Rather did was fall in love with the story years ago and when documents were "provided"..he failed to really check them closely. Love is blind.

I hate to say it, but that will come via the late night comics, not the MSM.

Yes! Rather and CBS will become a huge JOKE and we will laugh them into oblivion.

We should be doing this a lot more when the totally wacked out goobers acting as spokespersons for the DNC come on and start repeating the talking points over and over at electronic speed while talking over the opposition.

Whoever is on screen with these creeps should just start laughing and keep doing it until they either respond like rational human beings (they can't!) or they get laughed right off the screen.

I knew we going to win in 2000 when SNL did the skit where they said, "Al Gore wants to ...(give you this, give you that, etc.); George Bush wants to burn down your house." When the liberal audience laughed big, I knew that deep down they got it.

Mike Wallace is still spreading the C BS. The 60 Minute Gang of lunatic lefty thugs are professional liars and spinners. They are not professional journalists.

CBS is responsible for deceiving the American public about those documents.

The issue now is... CBS is guilty in this conspiracy to deceive unless and until they name who deceived them... Until they give up the forger, they are guilty of the act...

As the Rev Al says... "No Justice - No peace!"

"Maybe O'Rilley will invite him on the factor and ask him some softball questions...." Well O'Rilley said last night that he personally knew Dan and there was no way that he would run with knowingly fake documents. Oh really, no spin here. Kind of like the Swiftvets huh. First, don't take his word for it Bill just say "We are checking out the validity of the documents with our experts and will report back with the facts. NO PERSONAL SPIN. Stand up to your no spin motto Bill!

What would be funny is for the FCC to pull CBS's license. Then the White House pulls their press credentials.

Now that would be funny.

There was a time when CBS and the Associated Press were the pinnacle of the profession. Now I'm not sure what they are.

When will Dan resign?

I don't know, but if he does, I wonder if he will say, "I'm not a crook?"

It's probably a Soldier Killer operative trying to make it look to the American people as if a Republican operative did it to make them look bad.

I read your post. You obviously don't understand the Left. Rather is, always has been, and will go to his grave an enemy of humanity. Their goal is to enslave mankind to the whims of an elete few. A few he believes he belongs to as a charter member.
