I think I read that Dan Rather got a college deferment during the Korean War and then enlisted in the Reserves or Guard. After the War, he tried to become a Marine but couldn't finish boot camp, ended up in the Army. He tried at least once to say he was a former Marine but was debunked! He was told that he have had to at least finish boot camp to even THINK of using that distingushed alignment.

Not to mention...He calls himself a Marine...but the truth is...he joined and didn't make it thru boot camp!!!!!...That really must have had an affect on his self-esteem....
