Rather Says Will No Longer Address Charges of 'Professional Rumor Mill'
September 12, 2004, 21:39:50 EDT Dan Rather was quoted in the New Zealand Herald as saying that there was no use debating the authenticity of his documents which he claims are proof that George W. Bush committed any number of unethical acts while in the National Guard. "Until someone shows me definitive proof that they are not [authentic], I don't see any reason to carry on a conversation with the professional rumour mill."

Wow. It's good to know Emperor Dan doesn't have to answer to anyone if he doesn't feel like it.
Hey, the Emperor (Dan) "Without Clothes"!!! From: Hans Christian Andersen.

I can't remember, but was Dan caught trying to wear a fake medal? Yes and until somebody can prove he wasn't, he was.

Document experts weighed in for CNN and ABC concluded that the documents are forgeries. Dan Rather is calling his esteemed colleagues at ABC and CNN members of the professional rumor mill.

I won't rest until Dan resigns. He's a despicble hyper-partisan fool who has no business anchoring an evening news program.

Curious situation. Not only is the burdern of proof on others, but they have to get the proof to Dan, who will not listen until he has proof that he should.
Catch-22.
We have the basic impenetrable delusional system operating in plain view.

Dan Rather has certainly forgotten this part of journalism's Code of Ethics, if not quite a bit more of the Code:
link
Journalists are accountable to their readers, listeners, viewers and each other.
Journalists should:
- Clarify and explain news coverage and invite dialogue with the public over journalistic conduct.
- Encourage the public to voice grievances against the news media.
- Admit mistakes and correct them promptly.
- Expose unethical practices of journalists and the news media.
- Abide by the same high standards to which they hold others.

I'd love to see someone chase him around with a mike and camera as well. Reporters need to be held accountable...just like they hold politicians accountable. I'll second or third that suggestion! It's really bad when the reporting and the reporters become the news.

We're professionals??
Unless someone is being paid around here, I will continue to assume that we are all maintaining our amateur status so we can "rumor mill" in the Olympics.

It would be impossible to do this without access to the documents Rather was given, and he isn't allowing any document expert to examine them.
So, on the one hand he demands definitive proof while with the other hand he withholds the documents that need to be examined to provide that proof.
What a dolt.

Good old Stonewall Dan.... denial & lies.
