This is the most encouraging line in the entire article for us. If less than two months before Election Day, your campaign is trying to discover some supposedly hidden issue that can get the public fired up (which, for the record, do not exist), then you're in big trouble.
There is only one hurdle left for President Bush: the debates. As long as he gets through those without having a complete meltdown on stage (and he will do just fine, as he did in 2000), it's smooth sailing from here on out. Kerry's high negatives (the highest of any presidential candidate in the history of polling) are not going to go away. People that have been swayed by the Swift Boat ads are not going to wake up one morning in October and decide, "Ah, you know, what happened in Vietnam isn't really that important any more." Kerry's lost those voters forever.
You've got my vote for funniest tag line of the year.
> This is the most encouraging line ...
There are several. Here's another:
"... since the media onslaught against him, as well as
the dipping poll numbers, were affecting staff in
Washington and in satellite offices around the country."
Are the rats deserting the ship?
Probably inflicting paper cuts on themselves to
collect purple hearts so they can pack up and go home.
With things going this badly for Kerry/Rather election committee, I would expect Bush counslor James Baker to negotiate a low profile discussion, something carried by Cspan at 10pm PDT.
Why give the Rat a keyhole to crawl through?
