"Dont Mention The War"
Brings to mind the funniest episode of Faulty Towers w/ John Cleese and the German guests.
To: nyconse
who faked them? Some retired military guy? I don't think it was military. There are at least 3 things that jump out at any GI who looks at the memos.
1. The rank is wrong.
2. The memo's content and "tone" isn't consistant with military jargon.
3. No military fella would've put CYA in a subject line.

Aw, now we all know who the source is. It's good ol' DEEP THROAT from Watergate fame, now resurfaced as DEEP FONT. ... Come to think of it, the DEEP FONT experience tends to make one question whether DEEP THROAT was a figment, rather than a forgery.
After all, there wasn't any FR to do fact-checking and keep 'em straight back then...

MEANWHILE, OVER THE WEEKEND journalists from around the country were attempting to track down the original source of the documents. "We're having a hard time tracking how we got the documents," says the CBS News producer. "There are at least two people in this building who have insisted we got copies of these memos from the Kerry campaign by way of an additional source.I have certified proof from an expert (who unforunately died a year ago) whose research proved without a doubt that one of the two is the night janitor and the other was a tourist going to the restroom. And that's the way it is....

Go to truth.com, if there is one, and find out what's really happening," Kerry said. Wouldn't it be funny if during the debates, Bush (answering a question) says, "Well I was on Truth.com the other day, and I found some interesting tools"?

Any bets on whether Rather will be hosting CBS news later today or will there be substitute?

USA TODAY obtained copies of the documents independently soon after the 60 Minutes segment aired Wednesday, from a person with knowledge of Texas Air National Guard operations. The person refused to be identified out of fear of retaliation. It is unclear where the documents, if they are real, had been kept in the intervening three decades.
More here.
Sounds suspiciously like Bill Burkett...

Because now everybody sees how easy it would have been to forge the Killian stuff right. This should only be a problem if CBS is not brought to heel about this.

I've known Joseph "flounder" Newcomer for 20 years. He is, beyond question, a world-class expert on computer typography and his info can be trusted.
Let me add one other nail to the vampire's coffin. That the memos are typed in Times New Roman is established fact. But that font was commissioned by The Times of London in 1932 and all rights to it are owned by them.
Until the 1980s, when Apple and other computer companies started building commercial WYSIWYG word processing programs, and approached The Times for the right to replicate their font, Times New Roman was licenced only to two companies in the entire world: Monotype Corp of England and Linotype in the US.
To make it clear enough for even Dan Rather to understand: in 1972, no typewriter could possibly exist with that font. It could be used only by The Times and the two licencees.

3. No military fella would've put CYA in a subject line. Has anyone in the history of the world ever labeled a CYA memo "CYA memo"?

Liberal socialists are self-destructing on every street corner - bursting into uncontrollable intense flames right out in public - even on prime time shows like "60 Minutes" for all the world to see . .
I'm loving every second of it.
Hey, you sure don't hear that rattrap Barbarian Streisand's noise hole lately now, do ya? Wonder what's going on in Hollyweird. Awful quiet . . .

I've read several posts that the PO box addresses are real and not an issue. ???? The PO Box is real, but I haven't seen an example of it in typed letterhead.
http://www.cis.net/~coldfeet/doc7.gif <-- See Box #16
That being said, the PO Box discrepancy is at worst another straw man, a refutable point that isn't necessary to establish forgery beyond a reasonable doubt.
As for some of the memos being handwritten -- BS as far as the forged "Order to appear for a medical/physical examination." And all the memos hang together as a unit.
I haven't read the entire piece, but CBS definitly pedalled forgeries to an unsuspecting public. I do fine it highly relevant that the chain of custody traces back to the Kerry campaign.
