The Journal News in New York has an excellent story on Mirant and the Rockland school district tax dispute. It is well worth reading. The writer admits Mirant is probably due a refund. Go to the following link (insert "tt" where necessary) and read:

Looking better every day. Hope you're watching. This may be why Mirant stock took a jump recently. I don't know.
This is one to keep an eye on. Looks like Rockland is going to need to refund some tax money they were not due.
What's with the broken link bullcrap? Criminy...

Where are you? Check this out. Also, type in "Mirant" as a keyword and read the rest of the history of this case posted here. You are surprisingly silent these days. :-?
You fellas had a lot to say to me some time back, but can't get a comment anymore. Why?
Admiration and respect for your knowledgeable posts. Here's a favor. Check this one out. Have a nice evening.
Hey thanks. It rejected the original post (copyright?) and didn't want to run into that again. This is a GOOD story on the Mirant case. I've been trying to document as much of the case here in order to have it searchable later. Thanks.
Yikes. Didn't know that. Jim must have got a nastygram from some overzealous lawyer scum. I'm cc'ing Admin Mod on this thread to see if we should even be linking to it at all.
Admin Mod: If the link in http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1214235/posts?page=4#4 is not allowed, please nuke that post. Thanks...
Well, the way I did it allowed interested parties to go take a look. Now, you may get the whole thing nuked. However, that's okay. At least I tried. It IS a good story and worthy of reading for investor types.
Received another letter from Gannett Publications, publisher of USAToday, and several other newspapers. Nah. Admin Mod is skilled in the art of surgical strikes. He's got mad ZOT skills. I seen it.
Good deal. Looks like the link part is okay. Trying to be careful. This one is worth watching. If nothing else, it is going to be a textbook bankruptcy case. Enron hurt a LOT of people who had nothing to do with the type of games Enron was playing. It's really sad. I'll tell you more some day once this is over.
What's really sad is that the Enron corruption started and grew under Clinton. It was busted under Bush...but for some reason, Enron is seen by the Democrats as being Bush's fault.
Yeah, Enron donated money to Bush's campaign. But the money it gave Bush's campaign was nothing compared to how much they gave to Democrat Gray Davis (who was later ousted in the California Recall).
I very much appreciate your keeping me in mind. Hopefully, I'll batch up your posts and comments, and read them at some point in series.
Best wishes and regards, TQ.
You have to wonder how they can refund tax money --- I'm sure it's a large amount --- and make it on less money at the same time. Someone has to pick up the tab --- I guess the people are going to be in for a good tax increase now. Cutting expenses? That's the last thing they'll want to do.
