Vietnam Vets Rally Against Kerry in D.C.

1 hour, 7 minutes ago

WASHINGTON - Chanting "Kerry lied," hundreds of Vietnam veterans on Sunday rallied against fellow veteran and Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry (news - web sites).

Comrades died because of people like Kerry and Jane Fonda, asserted Larry Bailey, a U.S. Navy (news - web sites) veteran and president of Vietnam Vets for the Truth.

With the U.S. Capitol as a backdrop, Bailey accused Kerry of lying three decades ago when he returned from Vietnam and gave testimony before the U.S. Senate in 1971 alleging widespread atrocities by American troops.

"We can tell him (Kerry) and spit in his eye while we're doing it, 'we served honorably and compassionately,'" Bailey said to cheers from the crowd of approximately 1,000.

Bailey's speech was interrupted when a shouting match broke out between a lone Kerry supporter in a wheelchair, Vietnam veteran Bobby Mueller, and a number of the anti-Kerry vets.

Before the rally, a group of supporters held a news conference nearby to defend Kerry and call for an end to the TV ads attacking the military record of the Massachusetts senator.

"What we ought to be talking about is what's happening today and that includes the best person to lead us out of the mess we've got ourselves in Iraq (news - web sites)," Retired Gen. Merrill "Tony" McPeak, a former chief of staff of the Air Force, told reporters.

McPeak, who is advising the Kerry campaign and is a Vietnam veteran, said those who have questioned the five medals Kerry was awarded for Vietnam either weren't directly serving with him or their accounts have been directly contradicted by other vets who were side-by-side with Kerry.

"hundreds"

Looked more like thousands to me watching on C-SPAN. Is there an actual count. I hope these guys had an actual registry so they could debunk the "hundreds" mantra.

I wouldn't worry to much about Mcrat..oops mcpeak, he became the Chief of Staff of the AF kinda by accident right before Desert Storm in the fall of 1990 when the then Chief of Staff, who was pretty decent by the way, made a comment about US bombing strategy for the up coming war that got him in hot water and canned.

Mcpeak is the single most hated Chief of Staff the Air Force ever had that I know of, and I served under several from '73-'94, but you can ask just about anyone who was in then. He had very little to too with Desert Storm, that was run by LT. General Horner in Saudi Arabia working Stormin' Norman under the rules of the '86 Goldwater Nichols law that made theater commanders responsible for fighting wars and stateside commander, even higher ranking ones responsible for sending them whatever they asked for without asking questions, worked out quite well for that war

mcpeak was a fighter pilot in Vietnam, I'll give him that but he spent way too much time in the Pentagon grooming himself for general after. His policy's while Chief of staff were lame in the extreme, he changed our entire regulation system over, because he thought the old one was "too hard to read", tons of wasted work for way too many people, he reorganized the whole Air Force to resemble an old time fighter squadron, even though that just didn't work for all the different types of aircraft, missiles and systems we had in the 1990's and that has been changed back mostly after he left. he was the first high ranking general too buy into Clinton's dishonest "don't ask don't tell" policy..oh and that crazy new uniform!!!!....don't EVEN go there!!, but that got changed about 15 minutes after he retired

mcpeak's a joke, and he won't help kerry at all with the Air Force veterans vote

Fantastic! Glad to see that a young lady like that is supportive of our military, her dad, and the wife of a brave young man fighting for us. She should know that her husband is my son's hero and I'm not ashamed to admit that.

Flush the Johns in '04!

Thanks, Chieftain. Totally satisfactory event!

It was great to once again join my FReeper FRiends in protesting the LIEberal/Socialist/Marxist Bastards (that means you, Hanoi John!) who would trash the US Constitution and turn America into a third-world bananna republic! If it were not for millions of public-spirited citizens who recognize the danger and act upon their knowledge, that foul deed would be a done deal!

We stopped Clintoon, and we can stop Hanoi John. Thanks to the VRWC, we are witnessing the decline and fall of the great LIEberal/Socialist/Marxist Bastard fantasy. It cannot happen to soon to suit me!
