.....SNIP
KURTZ: Although I have interviewed Rather and Andrew Heyward, the president of CBS News, and I said, well, look, who are your document experts? So they finally gave me the name of a handwriting expert in San Francisco, and I called him, and he says, I am muzzled, I can't talk, CBS has asked me not to talk to the press....

This makes perfect sense. Tucker feels sorry for CBS for being used by leftists because Tucker probably feels sorry for himself for being used by CNN.

He was acting like Bobby Simone - offering the suspect an "out" to admit the crime.
I'd rather take the Andy Sipowicz approach & beat the confession out of them.
Hands Andy a copy of the Yellow Pages.

What possible legitamate reason is there for a news organization to "muzzle" any one, much less their own "expert". What right do they have? What influence could they exert? How could they possibly justify exerting such influence unless they are in the midst of a "cover-up" intended to hide the truth?

This is unreal. I cannot for the life of me figure out the bigger picture here. CBS is up to something; this is totally suicidal what they're doing. Whatever they're hiding it must be freaking HUGE. That's what it's looking like anyway. The only reason not to simply discount the story, apologize and move on is if somebody REALLY big at CBS is behind the forgery.
To: PJ-Comix
Well I'm back from having to go throw up after reading the whole transcript.
The story should be "Did CBS & the DNC conspire to smear President Bush in an attempt to effect the election?"
They're all acting like it's an arcan debate over fonts & superscipts that the American public does not care about.
And the keep flogging this BS. GLORIA BORGER, CNBC "And as Dan said in his report, it's not only the documents. That there's a preponderance of evidence to support the charges that they were making.
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Rather has his chance at a mea culpa but he chose to dig in his heels after the evidence (and many experts) said the things look fake. Do we want Rather, or do we want Kerry?
One has to really wonder why Danny-boy is so stuck to his toy guns. Perhaps he realizes that his half-baked reporting could cut down the scaffolds of JF'nK's campaign.
I want Blather to RETRACT, then we can go hunt the big fish.
If Tucker gives him an "out" to save his own mendacious bag of skin, then so be it - we must continue down the path, to the truth.

The only reason not to simply discount the story, apologize and move on is if somebody REALLY big at CBS is behind the forgery. In that sense, it's almost rivaling the Kerry Kamp's reluctance to open Frenchie's file to the world to end the controversy once and for all.

I think that girlie-boy Tucker Carlson's cute little bowtie is tied a bit too tight.
It cut off the flow of oxygen to his pea brain.

SeeBS has ordered their own expert not to talk to the press.
What a fragile grip they must have!
I can't get enough of this story!

I mean, all reporting depends to some extent on the goodwill of strangers, people give you stuff and you sort of trust it's true, and you can only check it to a certain extent. And if people want to subvert your report, they can. And so you would feel sorry for CBS, and I do.Bulls**t. CBS suppressed any evidence or testimony that might contradict their story. They acted as prosecutors, not newspersons.

Don't you get what Tucker was doing? He was acting like Bobby Simone - offering the suspect an "out" to admit the crime. But it's too late for that. CBS already defiantly announced that the docs are real, and proved by "unimpeachable sources." And they're not doing an internal investigation, nor allowing an independent investigation. Their time to simply admit that they were duped has already passed.

The only reason not to simply discount the story, apologize and move on is if somebody REALLY big at CBS is behind the forgery. Most likely some professionals at CBS objected to using those questionable documents on the broadcast but Dan Rather is such a CRYBABY that he forced them to go ahead despite their better judgement.

Of course, their "expert" may have his own reasons for keeping his mouth shut. If he's proven to have given bogus authentication in this case... it could potentially open up old questions of if he gave bogus authentication in other cases... THAT could have potentially serious consequences for him. (This isn't the first time he's been the dissenting "expert".)

That, or Blather knows the forgerer and it is someone high up in the Kerry campaign.
There is also another reason CBS is acting this way. I do not think they want to give in to US!!
You know the "new" media that the MSM HATES.
To have to retract a story that Freepers uncovered..oh hell no. Blather would rather bring down all of the CBS news division with his deviance and denial before he lets US win.
To: PJ-Comix
BTW, he is the ONLY one cited by CBS vouching for the authenticity of the documents even though he is a handwriting expert, NOT a document expert. Also, how tough is it to superimpose a signature onto a photocopy? What Kurtz should also note is that his own paper wrote that CBS said it had four document experts review the memos. Yet they're only highlighting the one guy, and refuse to name who the other three "experts" are. It's one thing to protect sources, but you can't protect your "experts."

>> Surprised CNN even covers the story...
I dunno. Sometimes I think CNN is coming around, that they recognize their own practices over the years have cost them. They'd probably like to be the ones to break it wide open in the MSM, but are having trouble finding someone within the organization with the rocks it'll take to put his carcass in front of the camera and speak the obvious truth - that their fellow traveler's story of last Wednesday night was a political hit piece that they all knew was a fabrication before it hit the air (and make no mistake - that's the only possible explanation, because as idiotic as they seem to be sometimes, it's impossible to believe they could be that stupid).

Whatever they're hiding it must be freaking HUGE.If they admit to the fraud, then they have to reveal their source because confidentiality should not protect those who attempt to commit fraud upon the public and the electoral process. BUT I'm betting the source has connections deep inside the Kerry campaign and CBS is unwilling to be the instrument that ensures Kerry's defeat in November.
