Richard Holbrooke was making the case that Iraq is already another Vietnam. If that's so, he must be signaling that if Kerry is elected, he'll bugout within four months than lie about his Iraq accomplishments in his run for Secretary General of the UN.
His band of brothers then will be Carville, Begala, Clinton and probably have the video to prove it.
See this is exactly what Kerry wants America to believe that Iraq is another vietnam... Sorry but Ho-Chi-Min did not kill 3000 innocent americans in the US. Anyone who believes that Iraq and War on Terror are not connected is just plain Ignorant.
That means that Kerry will secretly meet with leaders of the Iraqi insurgency to strategize how to ensure the U.S. loses. But don't worry, he'll report, only 2,000 or 3,000 people are likely to be killed in the event of a Ba'athist/Extremist takeover.
Wallace pointed out to him that we had lost 1000 in Iraq, 50,000 in Vietnam. Holbrooke still maintained the comparison.
Also, Holbrooke couldn't really explain with any details any of Kerry's many positions or plans.
Holbrooke has probably learned that, committing too early to a Kerry position, puts one's credibility on the line, as Kerry is sure to change it and make the surrogate mouthpiece look like a fool.
Iraq will be another Vietnam if we keep letting the Leftists in the media and the Congress tell us how miserably we're failing when the problems we're experiencing are nothing more than speedbumps on the road to liberty.
And Iraq will be another Vietnam only if we keep fighting this war halfway. We cannot keep coddling Moqtada al-Sadr and his ilk. So long as they and their kind live, freedom will always be a dicey proposition in Iraq. We must act accordingly.
There are ways to be against a war, or be against prosecution of that war, without hurting one's country. The vile, snooty, insufferab;y self-loving Holbrooke knows this, yet he is so horny to be Kerry's Sec'y of State, that he doesn't care. Like his pal Kerry, he doesn't give a damn how he affects morale or encourages the enemy. He just wants to be in a position of power, so he can let the right people die under dictators and geth is hands on the Jimmuh Peace Prize. Jerk.
The meme was coordinated with Seymour Hersh, for one. He argued the same thing on a morning show today.
Kerry camp knows well what's coming up from the Swifties - the Swifties aren't shy about it. "Don't pull out of Germany" Holbrooke's Vietnam analogy is made in anticipation of devastating upcoming attacks on Kerry's "anti-war" denouncements of American servicemen - and trying to make them seem less vile than they were by muddying the waters of the current situation.
BTW, If you want a better analogy Iraq is "another Kosovo".
I have had the misfortune of working briefly with this man on a couple of issues. He is even more unbearable in person than he appears on television, if you can believe it. And he is hated by almost anyone who has to work with him regularly. We all know people with completely wrong political ideas who are nevertheless decent in their personal lives. Holbrooke is vile on all counts.
Already attempted to meet the Iranians' goals via that "letter" months back and his recent appeasement plans.
Didn't we debunk the Iraq-is-Vietnam meme two years ago?
It drives me up the wall the comparisons between Iraq and Vietnam.
First, Kerry's "Uncle Ho" enjoyed popular support from the villagers of Vietnam thus making his gurrilla war more protracted than it should have been. Today he is almost a mythological figure. It's bizarre.
Something tells me Saddam won't have songs written about him thirty years after his death (penalty execution).
Second, Diem and ARVN weren't willing to fight for their own freedom, they left that up to America, they were willing to make a show of support for the media, but they were clearly more interested in holding on as long as they could and then leaving the country when America left.
I believe that the people of Iraq have now tasted freedom and want nothing more to continue the influx of liberty into their nation.
Third, casualties (which is what the comparison is really about) in Vietnam were due to an improperly waged war. Simply put, Vietnam is what happens when you let a liberal run the military. They weren't decisive about commitment to winning. Johnson, McNamara and others were more concerned with reputation among the D.C. establishment, and about their place in the history books. This resulted in life and death decisions hinging on poll numbers. Simply unreal from a gen-x/y perspective.
That indecisiveness, which Kerry seems to have proudly inherited, resulted in tragic losses for the US and devistated many young men who were simply doing what had to be done.
Iraq and Vietnam are nothing alike. I only wish the MSM would be taken to task about their repeated insinuation that the two wars are identical, in the same way the New Media has put Rather and C-BS over its knee.
God, these people are deeply, overwhelmingly UNPATRIOTIC and DEVIOUS.
Thanks for confirming what I thought. I don't know the man, Holbroke, however, in his TV interviews and in his editorials, he comes across as a man who could really turn Iraq into another Vietnam. As Democrats are prone to do if given half the chance.
Kerry has already taken steps to his Presidency, writing the Mullahs in Iran on 9 Feb 04, promising to end the War on Terror, and reverse the current Administrations actions. That says it all.
If Kerry is elected and he hires Holbrooke, then Iraq will be another Vietnam.
He is power-hungry, egotistical and hates Conservatives with a passion. Even other Liberals don't like him very much on a personal level, but he gets a pass because he hates the right people.
The fact that Richard Holbrooke would say such a stupid thing really calls into question Kerry's judgement in selecting him to be Secretrary of State. What an idiot. I thought Holbrooke was a policy wonk - a leftist partisan, yes, but he impales his own credibility with these kind of remarks.
The only quagmire today is the Kerry campaign. And maybe CBS "news".
Didn't 3,000 Americans die in a single month in Vietnam one time?
But most of all, Vietnam was about LBJ being re-elected in 1968. LBJ feared he would loose the election to Republicans, as did Truman to Eisenhower in '52. While US soldiers were fighting communists, Johnson and the Democrats were fighting the Republicans.
Now, that's all Iraq is about; this election. The Democrats really don't care what's happening to our soldiers, as long as Kerry wins. Should that happen, Kerry and Holbrooke WILL turn the Middle East into something worse than Vietnam. (sigh)
Then only Quagmire today exists in reruns of Family Guy on Cartoon Network. Giggity giggity!
