Well, then I might have a problem with my wife. She's a good rightwinger, too, but I'm afraid she'd have trouble understanding intra-family murder. But I agree it's a good thought!!!
Nice quote, I have Epitome of Military Science on my desk next to me. :)
Yes, I guess you're right. However, I wasn't advocating murder, just some corrective discipline.
At the event shown by C-Span an hour ago, John O'Neill & an Air Force ltc said the BIG similarity between Iraq & Vietnam was the old media distortion of U.S. shortfalls.
It's a very good historic document and pertains to current situation in my opinion.
The country needs to be cleansed of its liberals before they kill us. What do the soldiers think when they hear what these liberals are saying?
Why does the guy who is most responsible for our only lost war, the guy who is the most flagrant traitor since Benedict Arnold, get to run for President?
Even if he only gets 35% of the vote on election day it still means that we are doomed because you can't win every election. Eventually someone like Kerry gets in and that's all she wrote.
Powell is convinced of the rightness of this war on terror, including the war in Iraq, and has grown weary of having to repeat the same stories to the press each time he is interviewed. He knows his Commander-in-Chief is committed to nothing short of complete victory and that unswerving commitment has earned W. the dedication and loyalty of Colin Powell.
Think of it. President Bush has managed to convince a skeptical, left-leaning conservative Vietnam veteran to trust him. Powell wasn't convinced over night and we all know it. But he knows now that Bush will stay the course until our enemies either surrender or are ground underfoot. Powell respects Dubya's steel.
I missed this morning's talk shows but I'm not surprised Dubya has won over Powell.
I'm sure he was highly supported in those villages where the VC cadres went in an killed all the leaders, the teachers, and so forth. The Guerilla war was lost to "Uncle Ho" before Tet '68, but Tet '68 sealed it's fate.
ARVN weren't willing to fight for their own freedom, they left that up to America, they were willing to make a show of support for the media, but they were clearly more interested in holding on as long as they could and then leaving the country when America left.
The ARVN put up a damn good fight against a combined arms invasion comparable to the battles in Europe in WW-II, considering that they were denied resupply of ammunition, fuel, and other supplies, not to mention most of the air support we had taught them to rely on. The reason they were denied can be laid right at John Kerry's feet, amoung those of others of course.
Oh, and welcome to FRee Republic.
Powell is even tempered, but when he finally blows it is and will be an event to behold. Even though I often do not agree with him, he is a man of deep feelings and convictions. like that.
Umm, Ike was not runninga against Truman, but rather against Adlai E. Stevenson.
LBJ was not all that worried about losing to Goldwater, he was scared shiiteless of the Chinese. That is the analogy to Korea, he was afraid that if we won, then the Chinese would enter the war. Which was stupid, the Vietnamese and Chinese hate each other, and in fact fought along their common border during much of the 1980s. At the time the Chinese also had major upheavals at home, which killed millions, in the Great Cultural Revolution which was ongoing doing most of the peak years of the American involvement in the Vietnam war. Most of the foreign support for the North Vietnamese came from the Russia, although some did come through China, who "taxed" it and took a share of the material for themselves. The Soviets were not about to fight the US over Vietnam. Over Germany and Eastern Europe they might have, but not over a bunch of yellow people.
Thank you El Gato.
