Master Chief Master at Arms, an E-9, which is the highest enlisted rating. He would have needed to enter the Navy at least 15 years earlier (probably more) to be that senior.

The USS Currituck (AV-7) was a seaplane tender, not a carrier.
Now can we find someone else who was on the Currituck, or a cruise book from that time, and look for the name of the Master Chief Master at Arms?

Don't be silly. Obviously he wasn't MACM while he was on the Currituck. He'd be 90 years old by now. He was probably on the Currituck early in his career and retired later MACM.
His reticence is suspicious. But he's not vouching for the memos or anything. He's just a guy who gave an opinion. He might have lied out his a$$ to the AP, the Currituck Assn and everybody else and been a cook his whole career, however long it was. Or he might be telling the truth.
He is obviously a Muslim Imam today who supports Kerry. Big surprise. Anybody reading the article can draw the inference and likely discount it. You don't have to destroy everybody who offers an opinion, even if they are Muslim. It takes the forum from a golden triumph against powerful forces to being a petty low-life vindictice rumor spreader.
