3 MILLION ILLEGAL ALIENS TO FLOOD THE U.S. THIS YEAR
Sun Sep 12 2004 11:39:54 ET
The U.S.s borders, rather than become more secure since 9/11, have grown even more porous and the trend has accelerated in the past year. Based on a TIME investigation, its fair to estimate that the number of illegal aliens flooding into the U.S. this year will total 3 million, enough to fill 22,000 Boeing 737-700 airliners, or 60 flights every day. It will be the largest wave since 2001 and roughly triple the number of immigrants who will come to America by legal means, TIME reports in its cover story , "Who Left the Door Open?" (on newsstands Monday, Sept. 13th).
In a single day, more than 4,000 illegal aliens will walk across the busiest unlawful gateway into the U.S., the border between Arizona and Mexico. And many will obtain phony identification papers, including bogus Social Security numbers, to conceal their true identities and mask their unlawful presence. TIMEs Pulitzer Prize winning investigative team, Donald L. Barlett and James B. Steele, takes a look at the damage, the dangers, and the reasons America fails to protect itself as millions of illegal aliens pour across the U.S.-Mexican border this year, many from countries hostile to America.

If they want to let them in --- FINE
At the same time let's totally BAN WELFARE 100% and drop our taxes back to .0001%
Welfare includes CORPORATE WELFARE also!
Let competition, motivation, self-worth, honor, integrity, and greed prevail - all those things that made the USA the greatest & most powerful country this world has ever known.
CAPITALISM RULEZ!
I'm obviously not for people immigrating (legally or illegally) and then going on the public dole (I'd have to be posting on DU for that right ;-) ). But I do think the basic premise (as I understand it--please correct me if I'm wrong) of the anti-immigration (legal or illegal) is wrong--which is "we don't need any more people" as is the corrollary "we don't have enough jobs."
1. We do need people.
2. The majority of the jobs taken by illegal immigrants most current citizens don't want. Migrant labor isn't a particular popular vocational degree.
Cheers
Well Penny, you've been around FR long enough to know that FReepers have been defending Walmart and it's employment record not to mention the lack of enforcement by W of the immigration laws..what's left to explain
It wasn't that long ago when Walmart's founder was still alive that you could actually go to a Walmart and actually purchase American Made goods...that died when the old man died...
and you're welcome,
Kelly

Perry: Texas is as ready as other states
AUSTIN -- Three years after 9-11, Gov. Rick Perry said Friday that Texas "is as prepared as any state" to respond to a potential attack. Perry said officials are doing a good job protecting the border with Mexico and the coastline, although he said "I'm not sure we can ever get to 1,000 percent" protection. He also questioned a recent congressional report about security problems in Texas. Perry said state officials have received more than $1.1 billion in federal money to beef up homeland security and training to prevent and respond to natural and manmade disasters. Perry made his comments at a ceremony to present Star of Texas awards to public servants injured or killed in the line of duty. Perry also ordered that Texas flags be flown at half-staff today in memory of the victims of 9-11. He asked Texans to observe a moment of silence at 7:46 a.m.
Asa Hutchinson is a do-nothing, Politically Correct girlie man.
The emphasis should be placed on CLOSING THE BORDER. Why let a vary bad situation continue to get worse and worse?
Check out this post ^ and my rant at comment #17. Go read all the PC crap spewing out of Hutchinson's mouth. Disgusting and country destroying!
Just curious. Not sure if it's legal, and I'm not an employer.
But, if you wanted to "check" the validity of a SS#, can you ask the person what state they were born?
The "OTM" looking guy using that particular SS# might very well have been born in Illinois, but is there a way to ask this question without the ACLU barking down your back?
It's a Skull & Bones thing. You wouldn't understand.
Not so fast! A Reuters article (appearing in this a.m.'s Orange County Register) says Wal-Mart is treading on cultural toes in Mexico. Residents of the ancient Mexican city of Teotihuacan are protesting "gringo business" calling it "the flag of conquest by global interests, the symbol of the destruction of our culture."
"The sprawling warehouse-style Bodega Aurrera, a unit of Wal-Mart in Mexico, is due to open in December in Teotihuacan, a major archaeological site outside Mexico City."
Maybe all those "$7 an hour" pushers of Communist China goods and subsidy pickpockets can get a transfer back home!
Americans like their sleep too much. Even 9-11 didn't wake them up. One word - LAZY.
If TIME mag is doing a cover article on this madness (probably to try to hurt Pres. Bush) the time may be nearing.
We will have to see how the TIME article is slanted.
"Not so fast!"
the horse is out of the proverbial barn...
until the INS and the W administration start enforcing the immigraton laws of this country, fining companies who employ illegal aliens and deporting the illegals;
there will never be "homeland security!"
You do not have to prove citizenship to vote. Furthermore, the U.S. Election Assistance Commission (a new branch of government thanks to the Help America Vote Act) has been tasked with the duty to study the advantages/disadvantages of non-citizens voting.
We will see non-citizens having the right to vote in the next 10 years or sooner. Mark my words.
I'm amazed at their patience. Surely our "leaders" will wake up if we force them to.
I'm amazed at their patience too.
Those are talking points pushed by people that want to further the Invasion by shutting up people that are making noise. They think they'll get us to feel bad about the poor families just trying to make ends meet.
Bottom line, 99.9% of the rants you see here are about Illegals. Legal immigration is important and necessary. Most of us realise that...and support it.
There's a big difference between an Illegal and a Legal Immigrant. Someone wanting to immigrate, become a functioning American (not a hyphenated-American)...and live by our rules, is more than welcome in My America.
Someone wanting to cross the border at night, to hide their families in overcrowded and uneducated households can pack sand. I don't care how hard life is for them. They don't belong here and are taking resources from Citizens that deserve them.
Non-citizens do have the right to vote in a few states. In San Francisco the question allowing non-citizens to vote in local school elections is on the ballot. Maryland has a few counties that allow it as well as NY if I'm not mistaken.
Perhaps this is the reason illegal immigration is allowed to continue? Someone else on this thread mentioned that there must be reasons other than the Dems wanting future voters and the Republicans wanting cheap labor.
Try me.
Here's some information that might be helpful to people heading in that direction.

In total it's got some good information. But some of the foundations are a little shaky. FYI
W defeat in 2004 = 2008 GOP candidate who will shut the boarder
W victory in 2004 = Another worthless rino nominee in 2008 who will be defeated by Hillary.
