TEXAS GUARD DIRECTOR: '60 MINUTES DOC 'FORGED AS HELL'!

The Director of the Texas Air National Guard at the time President Bush served there said Sunday that Guard documents obtained by "60 Minutes" purporting to show dissatisfaction over his performance are "forged as hell."
"They're forged as hell," former Guard director Earl W. Lively told the Washington Times. "There's no way that [Bush's commanding officer] Jerry Killian would have written what they've come up with."
Lively was referring to documents aired by CBS news star Dan Rather on Wednesday, purporting to show that Bush's commander Lt. Col. Killian felt pressure from his own superior officer, Col. Walter "Buck" Staudt to "sugarcoat" Bush's record.
But Lively confirmed to the Times that Staudt had been honorably discharged in March 1972, nearly 18 months before the date of the forged Killian memos.

Maybe Dan will commit hairy Kerry.

1. All criticism of these documents is based on multiple generation copies that have been faxed and copied several times, which means the criticism is not valid. Even accepting that position, the only type of evidence that is rendered inconclusive is some parts of the forensics (exact shape of characters, etc.). But the substance of the documents, the words, provide additional evidence that impeaches the documents.

The democrat talking points have been consistent this morning. They say the question isn't the documents, the question is whether the President did his duty. Juan Williams on FNC even questioned whether the President disobeyed a written order (one of the fake memos).
Here is my question and I have yet to hear it on one of the talking head programs. Without the faked memos what is the basis of this story?
Without the faked memos the rest of this story was based on:
1)edited comments taken out of context from officers who now support the President
2)the opinion of an author who has written two Bush bashing books
3)the statement of a Kerry fundraiser who previously said the opposite story under oath
The answer is that this story has no fact behind it. The President drilled in a non-flying status in Alabama, he met his drill requirements for every year of his service, he was released early from his obligation due to the drawndown accompanying the U.S. withdrawl from Viet Nam.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding your post, but let me make it clear: I was illuminating CBS' apparent position, not anything truly logical. I referred to that list as the game CBS is currently playing. Clear? Or did I miss your point?

I didn't watch any of the panel interview programs today, but had Fox News on early this morning. Their segment on the Bush NG story had one non-FNC person on, Jim Moore, the author of two Bush-bashing books. He was their sole "expert."
I looked at one of Moore's books in a bookstore. He has a 50-page chapter on Bush's NG service in 1972-73 with all the usual Democrat allegations (but also includes copies of a number of documents). He keeps claiming that Bush was initially told "no" in May 1972 when he asked to perform his duties in Alabama instead of Texas, but I couldn't find anyplace where he cited evidence to support that claim.
If Jerry Killian was given to keeping a lot of stuff in his head instead of writing memos, that might account for the difficulties in locating scraps of paper to verify that Bush had permission to go to Alabama.

Here is the msg I just left - thoughts on how to improve it in future correspondence? Am particularly incensed at CBS for two reasons: a scurrilous attack last week using forged documents to impugn the credibility of a sitting President, and your stonewalling when called on it. If you knew the docs were forged before airing the story, why did you go ahead (and why now)? If you had them for 6 weeks and didn't know they were forged, well shame on you. And once you knew they were forgeries, why haven't you apologized to President Bush and the American people for attempting to sway the electorate with manufactured evidence and a rather biased report? Who are you covering up for? Where did these stories come from? Do you think that people don't believe you're the paid mouthpiece of the Democrat Party? Three words define a news organization: fair, credible, and trusted. Did this story help you in any category, except with a minority population of rabid Bush haters? How long will it be before other news groups less beholden to the Dems launch investigations? How long before advertisers pull their dollars to escape the taint? How long before consumers turn away from you or simply bypass you in their search for the real story? Well, other media sources have already been contacted so don't expect this to just die down. Your sponsors are also being contacted - we'll see how many want to be associated with your sleazy brand of "jounalism". Finally, many consumers are simply fed up with your group's repeated fabrications and obvious bias; they are being encouraged to not rely on you for information in the future. The good news is that in America, you have a second chance (maybe), but you're going to have to take your lumps like a man in the meantime. For starters, you'll have to admit that the docs were forged; your colleagues inside and outside CBS know this, so denying it is only digging your hole deeper. Second, you owe an apology to the President and to the American people for the harm you did and the harm you intended to do. Third, a wholesale revamping of your news and editorial staff is probably in order; this won't protect them from civil and criminal charges, but it may slow down the exodus of your viewership. Anxious to hear your thoughts...

Okay everyone you want to know how desperate the Dems are? They are now going to use George Bush's campaign material from the 70's to say that he said he was in the U.S. Airforce when supposedly he wasn't. I can't post the picture of the campaign material because it is from the DU site and I will probably get banned for doing that. Little do they know that he was under the command of the USAF. What idiots!

They say the question isn't the documents, the question is whether the President did his duty. Juan Williams on FNC even questioned whether the President disobeyed a written order (one of the fake memos). So, in other words, the left is saying, "It's not whether the documents are forged, it's the seriousness of the allegations they contain!"

Clear? Or did I miss your point? I was saying that even if you accept CBS's first point, the other two don't follow.

Actually, the report is that many in the CBS food chain doubted the authenticity of these memos, but Rather insisted on going with the story. He has that kind of decision making power based on 100 years of senority. Now he stands with the egg on his wrinkled puss, and I'm sure there are many at CBS who would LOVE to see him go, too. Can you imagine working with this pompous jerk?
