1ST BRIGADE COMBAT TEAM TRANSFERS AUTHORITY
CAMP ARAMADI, Iraq -- The 1st Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division transferred authority to the 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division in a Sept. 11 ceremony here.
The Soldiers of 1BCT, who have been in Iraq for more than a year, are planning to return to their home base of Fort Riley, Kansas.
In the early stages of the deployment, the 1BCT was attached to the 82nd Airborne Division before switching over to the 1st Marine Division, which the unit has been attached to since March 20.
Besides combat operations 1BCT conducted during its time in Iraq, the unit also formed and trained the 60th Iraqi National Guard Brigade and sponsored more $23.8 million in civil projects in the Al Anbar province.
Prior to deploying to Iraq to relieve 1BCT, the Soldiers of 2BCT were forward deployed to Korea.
